The early rumors mention Stan Van Gundy and Kelvin Sampson as the frontrunners

It's amazing to me that the same Stan Van Gundy who had arguably the best player in University of Wisconsin basketball history (Michael Finley) as a senior and managed to finish under .500 as a head coach would be a candidate for any job in the state of Wisconsin. I realize he did decently in the NBA with D-Wade and Dwight Howard on his teams, but the image of him screwing up that Wisconsin team is still there for me.

Absolutely not. I hear this crap attitude from football only fans. The Packers were terrible for 20+ years. Things will turn around for the Bucks.

Things will never turn around for the Bucks until the NBA has an entire overhaul from the top down. Stern needs to be the first to go.
stern is gone in Feb. of 2014.

The Bucks will turn it around sooner than later. They do have some decent young pieces and its inevitable that a new ownership group is coming in the near term. Herb is looking to ensure that this stadium is built, then he will sell, but after he glues this team to Milw for the next several decades.

He's probably going to invest over 100M into this new stadium, he's committed to basketball here. Yes, he meddles too much, but he also loves this state and its fans - I respect him for that.
Kohl is still paying for his biggest mistake, and it's one that he committed in his first year as an owner- he fired the man who was the basketball architect of the franchise's success in the early 80s. 25 years later, the ghost of Don Nelson still lingers.

The Milwaukee Bucks are in deep trouble. They need bold, aggressive moves and some luck.

Don Nelson? Really? I'll give Nelson credit for being an innovator and fielding some entertaining teams over the years, but I think his track record post-Milwaukee has proven he's a royal pain in the rear. He's been run out of Golden State (twice), Dallas, and New York -- all on bad terms with management. His first stint in Golden State ended when he pulled off a huge trade for Chris Webber, promptly alienated Webber with his coaching style, and got spare parts for him.

I'll agree with you that the Bucks are in trouble -- they need smarts and luck, and they haven't had either in a long time.

He was enigmatic... But if he stays in Milwaukee, I feel strongly they would not be as bad today as they have been.

Nelson and Cuban Feud

Regardless of Nelson, the Bucks are in a bad spot. They've certainly had some bad luck, but they've made some bad decisions. Chief among them is the General Manager position.
Looks like Kelvin Sampson and Nate McMillen are the front runners. I am intrigued by Sampson, but if the hire him, it may mean the Bucks intend to keep Jennings. He was part of Jennings' better seasons. He seems to coach for better G play, as the Rockets got tremendous G play this season.

Of course, the Bucks don't have James Harden, either...
