Goldie, we can talk about the Pirates series in this thread.

It was time for Lorenzo Cain to hang things up, but that is not an inside-the-park HR if Cain is playing.
It was the right idea to replace Cain, but maybe not with a 30 year old 174 career hitter with very little upside.
Brewers get unlucky with a Hiura ground rule double that easily ties the game (and maybe more) if it doesn't bounce over the wall.
Now bases loaded, two outs, and Yelich up. Down 1.
Yelich with the clutch 4-pitch walk with the bases loaded to tie it. Not a single pitch close to the strike zone.
BoxbergerâĶmoney.
Walk off!
What a finish
Caratini gets lobster linguini and canoles tonight.
If only he was Italian.
Puerto Ricans can have that as well, I guess.ð
I love baseballs meaningless stats
.@VictorCaratini became the fifth player in the Modern Era (since 1900) to strike out in his first four plate appearances and hit a walk-off HR in his fifth.

Mike Schmidt (1983)
Ray Knight (1986)
David Justice (2001)
Derek Norris (2015)
Victor Caratini (2022)#ThisIsMyCrew
Good company.
Iâll one up your meaningless stat.

And he maybe the only switch hitter to do it.

0-4 until that blast!
First time on Independence Day!
That was a fun couple of innings. My Cub fan neighbor across the street hasn't been putting up his W flag very much this year. Even when they win he doesn't bother.
Last night...not so much fun.
Some bad baseball. Throwing to 1st base is difficult
Boxberger gets removed in the 8th after giving up 1 run with two other baserunners on with one out. Burnes' 7 shutout innings will result in a no decision again.
Why Boxberger in the 8th today?? Williams/Hader should've finished this one out. They didn't pitch yesterday and a day off tomorrow.
Neither Hader nor Williams is available today. Neither pitched last night and they have a day off tomorrow. Not sure what the rationale was for this?

Instead we get Trevor Gott in the 8th with two guys on in a tie game. It worked out, but it's not clear where they go from here with Boxberger, Williams, and Hader all out of the game or unavailable.
Hader sure looks available to me.
Davis on 2nd, nobody out, bottom of the eight, top of the order at bat. Ball never leaves the infield (Tellez intentionally walked).
Hader in for the top of the ninth.
Velasquez completely overmatched by Burnes and Hader today.
And now Hader gets scored on.
Cubs run set up by a leadoff walk when Hader didn't come within 6 inches of the strike zone on 4 pitches.
i do like that Keston did some good today
Sweet sassy molassy, Keston Hiura made a running catch and face-planted into the out of town scoreboard. Take back everything you said when you saw the lineup this morning. pic.twitter.com/h7jlmmV3Zp

Wong leads off the 9th by striking out on ball 4 in the dirt.
Disappointing series to say the least. The Brewers scored 2 runs the last 17 innings against the Cubs.
Yes, Hader took the loss, but when your pitching staff gives up 2 runs against an inferior team that is nowhere near you in the standings, you need to win that game.
That's 2 blown saves in a row for Hader. All Star break can't come soon enough.

Taylor is the replacement for Cain.

Taylor replaced him as the starter, but Davis got Cain's roster spot as the 2022 late inning defensive replacement (basically Jackie Bradley Jr.). I'm just not sure what Davis gives you for the roster spot that Cain didn't.
