The Bucks look like they just don't give a shit. Have they quit on Griffin?

I wish they could move on from Griffin. You can't fire a coach on pace to win 50+ games.

But I'm sure deep down, Horst wishes he could go back in time and keep Bud, or at least hire a guy with head coaching experience.

It's 108-67 at the end of three. And, they are lucky the Cavs aren't even up more.

Never should have fired Bud.

Not without a clear plan to get someone better.

Griffin interviewed with 13 other teams before the Bucks hired him. Giannis liked him, so they hired him. Giannis has to be the one that wants him gone.

I think anyone who had ever watched basketball could come in and coach this team to 45 wins. You have two of the top 50 players all time healthy.

Sure you can. This team isn’t playing to win 50 games. They’re playing to win another championship, and there is next to no chance of that happening with this horrible defense.

The question now is how much of 2024-‘25 you want to waste putting in a new coach and system.

Can Griffin now, let one of the assistants show what they can do if anything, and be ready to hire an established coach with a pedigree (and the ability to coach defense) as soon as that window opens.

Giannis isn’t getting any younger. And we have no draft capitol left for the next few years.

Middleton is all but done. Things could get very ugly very fast.

Lopez turns 36 in about 10 weeks. It's questionable whether he can stay on the court for the playoffs this year, let alone next year. If they get bounced in the first round this year (or even the second round) they will have to retool somehow with no real assets to do so.

The problem was the sequence of the processes were wrong, but they didn't have control over that. I would bet had they known they were getting Dame and subtracting Holiday, they would have gone in a different direction for a coaching hire. Griffin's schemes are a better fit for Holiday and a team that is trying to win with its defense.

So, Mike Budenholzer?

Another article with a lot of data from Brewhoop on how bad the Bucks defense is. Basically, the only thing saving them right now is that opponents are missing a lot more wide open 3s than they should (no one within 6 feet when then shoot). If that normalized to the league average, the Bucks defensive rating would drop from 21st to 29th.

The scheme does not fit their personnel. Griffin is still trying to scheme like he has defensive personnel like he did in Toronto as an assistant.

Middleton had a horrible game but going all the way back to the beginning of December he’s been shooting over 40% from 3  Over that span of about 20 games, almost half of them he’s shot 50% or greater from 3.   In the games he’s played 30 minutes or more, he’s giving you about 20PPG.

You get that contribution from Middleton and this team will be in decent shape come playoff time.

I do think they need to look at maybe dealing Lopez or Portis or Pat C.

What is Pat C worth, a warm 12 pak of Old Mil?

Given his contract was just extended for 3 years and 30 million this year, he has the type of contract that you usually have to attach a 2nd round pick to get out of for a guy his age.
