The kids are not looking real promising. I know that we pick low being near the top of the East every year, but damn, even a decent role player that could provide some defense would be an improvement.
I wonder what kind of basketball shape Crowder is in. He hasn’t played yet this year.

Crowder is set to be a free agent after this season so there’s extra built in motivation for him to play and play well.
The move also makes a lot of sense considering the injury to Bobby Portis and it allows them to bring Middleton along a bit more slowly.
I’ve always liked Crowder, seems to me he is a make a big play when needed type of guy. Heady and steady.
He can make a difference in the playoffs.

Crowder is basically a slightly bigger (6'6 vs. 6'4) version of Wes Matthews. It gives them 12 fouls and double the minutes to at least make things difficult for Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown without having to completely exhaust Holiday, Giannis, or Middleton doing it.
There are a few of teams that have a puncher's chance (10% or so) of beating Boston or Milwaukee in the playoffs (Philly, Miami, and maybe the Cavs). However, it's pretty clear to everyone at this point (after the Nets waived the white flag and Philly basically did nothing except make a minor trade at least in part to get out of the luxury tax), that the East is very likely to come down to a Bucks-Celtics series.
You can't play Ingles or Grayson Allen (or even Connaughton) big minutes against the Celtics. You can get a combined 48 minutes out of Matthews and Crowder against Tatum if necessary.
Now, I guess the Celtics think they can contain Giannis with what they have. We'll see.
If I'm the Bucks, the next concern I have is Embiid (and maybe the Cavs front line guys). Ibaka was supposed to be the guy to get 10-12 minutes against Embiid so that Lopez and Giannis stay out of foul trouble. Embiid is going to eat Mamu alive if they have to play him. Can they essentially get another Ibaka type on the buyout market?
It would also be ideal to get a George Hill type to play point guard for 8-10 minutes to spell Holiday. Jevon Carter cannot handle the ball in a playoff series. Can they get a Westbrook/Wall type for the 2021 Jeff Teague role?
