Three really big problems.

1. Griffin appears to be implementing a defensive scheme that makes Brook Lopez unplayable. That's just beyond stupid. Extend a guy for 2 years and almost 50 million who was All-NBA defensive first team last year and then design a defense that completely neuters him. You either hired the wrong coach or wasted a lot of money on a guy that doesn't fit the scheme.

2. Griffin's defensive scheme appears to be Jason Kidd-like. It emphasizes ball pressure and trapping (which is not a good fit for Lopez) but if you beat the traps, you end up with lay-up after layup. It's unbelievable how easy it's been to beat it.

3. I don't know what the hell Griffin is trying to do on offense. They almost never run Giannis/Dame pick and roll. Why not? The sets have almost no motion concepts and guys just stand around and watch a high ball screen.

The irony of this is that over the three seasons ago, the Bucks had PJ Tucker, Jevon Carter, and Jrue Holiday guarding wings and Bud was criticized for playing drop too often with those elite on-ball defenders. Lillard and Beasley are poor defensive players, but Griffin plays a defense that you'd use with Carter and Holiday.

The players love that Griffin is a former player because he "gets them" more. Maybe they like that because he's too much of a colleague and not enough of a coach.

Bucks out rebounded 50-29.  That is just laziness.

It's also schematic. The new scheme of ball pressure makes it harder to clear the defensive boards. Toronto had 15 offensive rebounds.

Bud's teams would have duds from time to time, but it was usually when the other team got hot from 3. Bud was willing to live with that because he gambled that you were better off making teams do that (which they could occasionally) than giving up open shots at the rim.

Griffin's schemes (even in the two wins) have given up more open layups in 4 games than Bud's would in 20 games. It's really, really, really bad.

Bucks better get used to getting every teams best shot.

Every fucking game.....all 82. Get used to it cuz it ain't stopping.

That's not what's happening. Did you see how many uncontested layups they gave up tonight? This was not someone playing out of their mind because they were jacked up to face the Bucks. This, like the Hawks, was a team that just took the easy shots that were given to them.

I don't know if they just haven't gotten enough practice time to get what Griffin wants them to do or if he's just a career assistant that all his former players loved that should have never gotten near a head coaching job.

These schemes right now are Drayton-level bad. And Griffin has two of the top 75 players of all time and a half dozen very solid vets. These guys might be older, but they are professionals who aren't used to getting embarrassed like they did tonight, during the 4th quarter against the Heat, and against the Hawks. Once the league got on tape what Griffin wanted to do, they've been toast.

Yes I saw.....IDK if it's scheme or like Ammo said, laziness.....whatever it is, it needs to stop immediately.

We're only at game #4.

If Game 10 rolls around and this keeps happening and they're 5-5.....that's not going to cut it. We've seen coaching changes happen this early before.

Didn't Dunleavy get canned after 10-12 games?

Another over-hyped Wisconsin team in the preseason?

I know you are likely being sarcastic, but this Bucks team has 2 of the top 75 players in NBA history still in their primes along with a group of very good, experienced, role players. In 2 of the 4 games they've played (and in the 4th quarter of one of their wins) they have been completely outschemed. There is no way this team should fall behind by almost 30 points to non-playoff teams (unless the opposition has an extreme outlier 3-point shooting game). That has not been the problem. Uncontested layups in transition and even in the half court has been a problem.

You obviously have to give Griffin some time to implement his schemes and 4 games is not enough of a sample size. However, if this gets 20-25 games in and they continue to look this disorganized and unprepared, they'll have to do something. I'm not sure what that will be, but you'd expect they would have to move on from Griffin or trade a major piece. Lopez would be the guy to trade since Griffin's current scheme makes no sense to use with Lopez.

Maybe in a month they'll have adjusted and be playing lights out, and the only thing that counts for this team is the playoffs, but the Hawks and Raptors losses were 2 of the worst looking losses they've had in a while.
