About half their possessions they make one or zero passes and jack up a shot. they deserve to get a fucking beat down in this game. When you don’t pass the ball, you don’t win.

PASS THE FUCKING BALL!!! 🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬🀬

The problem is that this is what they've looked like against good teams so far this year. The bench guys look good against crappy teams, but they aren't good enough (other than Portis) to match up against playoff teams right now. They have awful defensive players off the bench (Forbes and Augustin).

Forbes and Augustin aren’t there to play defense and we know this.  The problem is, they have good defenders on the floor like DDV and Holiday and Giannis and Middleton and they are not playing as well as they can.  Not to mention their best defender (Craig) has been hurt.

The template is out there to beat Milwaukee.  If the shots fall they likely aren’t going to win.   It’s that simple.   If you give up 25 bombs?  It’s likely you won’t even compete.   Utah was on fire, but the Bucks scheme doesn’t help matters IMO.  At what point do you have to make schematic adjustments?   They have been a terrible defensive team this year defending the perimeter.

The other disturbing trend I am starting to see is this team has regressed with their rebounding.  They already turn the ball over too damn much, but it’s resulting in extra possessions and extra looks for the opposition.  Portis can be active defensively but he’s not a stopper.  Clearly the bench is deficient in how they are able to D up and rebound and that has to change regardless of Torrey Craig.

Instead of George Hill and his 6'9" wingspan closing out at the 3 point line as your first guard off the bench, you have two undersized guys out there in Augustin and Forbes. A coach like Spoelstra adjusts his scheme to account for that.

The Bucks this year don’t look quite as bad as the β€œbubble” version of the Bucks.  But they look a couple notches short of the level of play the pre-pandemic Bucks.

They’re going to need some of the supporting cast of the Big 3 to step it up as the season wears on.

They had one of the best benches in the NBA pre-pandemic.  This year’s bench so far looks like a sizeable downgrade.

Honestly, they should deal DJ Wilson for another defensive/rebounding minded big.   He’s playing pretty well and I would think a team would be interested in his ability to shoot and score.  Plus, they have a younger (better) version in Nwora and he should get more minutes.

As for the team overall, their record and their play probably hasn’t been as good as we were expecting, but if you look around the league even the really good teams are still getting adjusted and getting their sea legs back underneath them.   I agree with MC- I expect them start playing quite a bit better once they mesh.  These first dozen games or so are almost like summer league/preseason given the quick turnaround and literally no training camp.  Plus, one of their key additions (Craig) hasn’t even played.   He’s a very good defender and excels at perimeter defense and that’s been the Achilles heal so far for this team.

I do think they could use one more enforcer/post defender guy that can come in and get rebounds or contest shots.   Sort of a bigger version of Torrey Craig because he’s more of a wing defender and Pat C isn’t that type of player either.  As well as Portis has played he’s not very physical on D and not a great rebounder or shot blocker and you see teams not afraid to go inside if he’s in there subbing for Giannis.

DJW has 12 points and 3 boards in 15 minutes. Thanasis has 0 points and 2 boards and 2 turnovers in 12 minutes.

You have to believe the β€œThanasis first F off the bench” time is going to reach an endpoint. He gives you energy, but he isn’t really an NBA caliber player. Wilson deserves the long look...

Yes. Thanasis is a guy you have ready to go in on a dead ball for a defense-only possession at the end of a quarter to get Augustin or Forbes out. Or maybe a 3-4 minute spurt when you need some energy or want to annoy a guy on the other team. He's not a 12-14 minute a game player.
