Bad offense...
Bucks come "unglued" according to Jim Paschke. Giannis airball 3. No half-court offense.
About half their possessions they make one or zero passes and jack up a shot. they deserve to get a fucking beat down in this game. When you donβt pass the ball, you donβt win.
PASS THE FUCKING BALL!!! π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬π€¬

This is more the norm against good teams. Give up a lot of open 3s to good teams that hit them. The lack of rebounds and transition bogs the offense down They then crap the bed in half-court offense. This leads to transition wide-open 3s for the opposition.
Glad I'm unable to watch this game........
Put Forbes on the fucking bench- good grief...
Bryn Forbes looks like a D3 player tonight.
Not their night... came out soft, got wood shedded...

The problem is that this is what they've looked like against good teams so far this year. The bench guys look good against crappy teams, but they aren't good enough (other than Portis) to match up against playoff teams right now. They have awful defensive players off the bench (Forbes and Augustin).
6 points in 9 minutes.
They waiting until the game was over to start calling Utah for fouls...
Pretty bad effort tonight... disappointing.
Utah made almost as many threes as the Bucks missed....
Bucks never got within single digits in the 4th.
Giannis' hip will be sore tomorrow and he'll sit. May lose the game tomorrow too.
To show how bad the backup guards were tonight, DDV's +/- tonight was +3 in 30 minutes. They were -16 in 18 minutes he wasn't on the floor.
Forbes and Augustin were 0 for 6 from 3 between them and had 2 points in their 34 minutes. It also doesn't reflect just how pathetic they were on defense, either.
Forbes and Augustin arenβt there to play defense and we know this. The problem is, they have good defenders on the floor like DDV and Holiday and Giannis and Middleton and they are not playing as well as they can. Not to mention their best defender (Craig) has been hurt.
The template is out there to beat Milwaukee. If the shots fall they likely arenβt going to win. Itβs that simple. If you give up 25 bombs? Itβs likely you wonβt even compete. Utah was on fire, but the Bucks scheme doesnβt help matters IMO. At what point do you have to make schematic adjustments? They have been a terrible defensive team this year defending the perimeter.
The other disturbing trend I am starting to see is this team has regressed with their rebounding. They already turn the ball over too damn much, but itβs resulting in extra possessions and extra looks for the opposition. Portis can be active defensively but heβs not a stopper. Clearly the bench is deficient in how they are able to D up and rebound and that has to change regardless of Torrey Craig.
Bad offense fed the bad defense. That 12-0 stretch to start the 4th was all Giannis and Middleton taking bad shots. Then the rest of them followed suit. They didnβt score a basket in the 4th until a Giannis dunk almost halfway through the quarter. And it was all shot selection.

Instead of George Hill and his 6'9" wingspan closing out at the 3 point line as your first guard off the bench, you have two undersized guys out there in Augustin and Forbes. A coach like Spoelstra adjusts his scheme to account for that.
Bucks over the Cavs 27-14 after 1. It's amazing how well the drop defense works when the other team can't shoot 3s.
Bucks go up 19 and then promptly give up a 9-0 run to keep them around.

Now 14-0 and it's down to 5.
From 35-16 to 37-37. Absolutely pathetic against a Cavs team missing about 6 guys.

They bring Middleton back in and the Bucks go 10-0 to end the quarter.
DDV looks like he did last year. Great defensive guy who can't shoot. After starting the season blistering hot, he's now 2 for his last 16 from 3.
Bucks go up 15 to start the 4th and the Cavs go on a 7-0 run to cut it to 8 in 90 seconds. Of course, a lineup choice of Lopez, Connaughton, Forbes, Wilson, Forbes, and Augustin was a problem. What a stupid lineup to play at any time.
The Bucks this year donβt look quite as bad as the βbubbleβ version of the Bucks. But they look a couple notches short of the level of play the pre-pandemic Bucks.
Theyβre going to need some of the supporting cast of the Big 3 to step it up as the season wears on.
They had one of the best benches in the NBA pre-pandemic. This yearβs bench so far looks like a sizeable downgrade.
I think the pieces are still fitting together. Defensively itβs all a work in progress. The starters too.
I donβt think this team is playing anything like what it is going to play like in a couple more months.
DJW has 12 points and 3 boards in 15 minutes. Thanasis has 0 points and 2 boards and 2 turnovers in 12 minutes.
You have to believe the βThanasis first F off the benchβ time is going to reach an endpoint. He gives you energy, but he isnβt really an NBA caliber player. Wilson deserves the long look...
Honestly, they should deal DJ Wilson for another defensive/rebounding minded big. Heβs playing pretty well and I would think a team would be interested in his ability to shoot and score. Plus, they have a younger (better) version in Nwora and he should get more minutes.
As for the team overall, their record and their play probably hasnβt been as good as we were expecting, but if you look around the league even the really good teams are still getting adjusted and getting their sea legs back underneath them. I agree with MC- I expect them start playing quite a bit better once they mesh. These first dozen games or so are almost like summer league/preseason given the quick turnaround and literally no training camp. Plus, one of their key additions (Craig) hasnβt even played. Heβs a very good defender and excels at perimeter defense and thatβs been the Achilles heal so far for this team.
I do think they could use one more enforcer/post defender guy that can come in and get rebounds or contest shots. Sort of a bigger version of Torrey Craig because heβs more of a wing defender and Pat C isnβt that type of player either. As well as Portis has played heβs not very physical on D and not a great rebounder or shot blocker and you see teams not afraid to go inside if heβs in there subbing for Giannis.

Yes. Thanasis is a guy you have ready to go in on a dead ball for a defense-only possession at the end of a quarter to get Augustin or Forbes out. Or maybe a 3-4 minute spurt when you need some energy or want to annoy a guy on the other team. He's not a 12-14 minute a game player.
