The Heat didn't even show up tonight and they're up big. The Bucks simply have no way to score against a team that can defend. If Ellis and Jennings are draining impossible shots all game long, they're ok- they can stay close. But as always, there is no way to sustain that.

And despite all those interior players that are developing, they can't shoot. Redick was brought to try to stretch the floor, but that's not enough.

The Jet made an interesting comment at the half- it's an interesting perspective: that Jennings isn't the kind of PG that gets you into sets and directs the flow. He thrives on chaos. But you cannot have a team like that. If that's what you need to be successful, you get rid of him. You cannot have a street along PG directing a professional team. He's Rafer Alston... Without he streetball handle.
Jennings (and Ellis for that matter) are great guys to have coming off the bench as change of pace types. They could give you 20 minutes of high energy and instant offense. Bringing them off the bench would also allow them to have more favorable defensive matchups. In other words, they are Nate Robinson types.

Jennings is a 39% shooter for his career and Ellis shot 42% this year (28% from 3). They averaged 17 and 19 points respectively. Ellis' average game was about 7 for 17; Jennings was about 6 for 16. Ellis gets to the line about 4.5 times a game; Jennings 3.5. There are probably a few dozen NBA guards or small forwards who if they got that number of shots (without having to worry about getting pulled out of the game for taking ridiculous low percentage shots) who would be at least that productive. One example is Corey Maggette when he was with the Clippers in 2004 when his average game was around 6 for 15. Maggette was a black hole on offense but at least he got to the line 10 times a game that year. Ellis and Jennings don't even give you that.

Giving either of these guys anything close to a max contract would ensure the Bucks don't win more than about 40 games for the next five years. Cut bait and get something in a sign and trade if possible. Keep Sanders and Mbah a Moute and build a team around defense and ball movement.

The Bucks got into trouble last night when Sanders had foul trouble and they stopped going to the hoop - instead settling for outside shots. The problem is that it wasn't two of their better 3pt shooters (Ersan and Redick) taking them. Those two guys only had like 4 attempts between them. Jennings and Ellis took 16 attempts and hit 5 of them. That can't happen.

Bucks need to get to the rack and dump the ball down into the post. Miami will have a tough time with Sanders and that's the one matchup in the Bucks favor.
I would start:
Dalembert, Sanders, Luc-Ric, Ellis, BJennings.

If LeBron guards Luc-Ric, I would park Luc-Ric right on the low-Block for as long as he is in the game. Do not move during the offensive set. I would post Sanders on the opposite block where he can come out and P-n-R with Ellis or Jennings. I would have Dalembert work the opposite elbow from where Sanders posts and take that shot when given. So Sanders can post or come way out to pick for the 2 guards, Dalembert can shoot or pick at the elbow opposite of Sanders for the 2 guards and they always know where Luc-Ric would be.

On Defense, I would come double LeBron EVERY time with a guard. I would park my 2 bigs outside of but half way up the lane, a mini-zone, someone comes into the lane that nearest guy steps up and the other guy covers either of the backsides from there. Both those guys can defend the rim.

Bucks win. Smiler
They probably feel they can't play Dunleavy and Redick at the same time, but I agree with Trump in being puzzled why Redick only played 8 minutes. It's not like Jennings or Ellis was on fire (5-22 FG).

Obviously Wade and Bosh are great players, but I wonder what would happen if you just simply switched Lebron to the Bucks and then played the games. I'd bet on the Bucks. At this point in their careers, Ray Allen is essentially JJ Redick and Sanders and Mbah a Moute aren't overmatched by Haslem, Anderson, and Bosh. If our point guards were forced to actually play like typical point guards, I think they match up well with Chalmers.

The Lebron James situation is the NBA in a microcosm. YOu have to get one of the superstars to really be competitive. If you get a top 5 pick and don't get a superstar you just end up on a treadmill giving major minutes and shots to good, but not great, players like Jennings, Ellis, Michael Redd, etc. and then having to overpay them to keep them because there stats are artifically higher than they would be playing for a title contender. You then get stuck with the contract and have to trade your garbage contracts for other teams garbage contracts.
If there were ever a case to not resign Brandon or let Ellis opt out this series would be it.

These two guards seem more interested in jacking up outside shots than helping the team win. They are great at beating guys off the dribble yet they'd rather stop and pop despite being erratic shooters. Mad

The shame of it is that the Bucks have played well in this series other than those two knuckleheads and they have some good pieces to work with like Sanders and Moute and Ersan and Henson but Jennings and Ellis are killing them. Cya
