Teams know they will get open 3 looks against the Bucks - Nets have jacked 32 3's already in the 1st half. Just baffling how easy it is....esp from the corner.

If the magic number is 1, you'd think you'd want to sew it up now though (although the 3-6 seeds are probably interchangeable in terms of who you'd want to play). The Nets minus their 4 best players might have been the way to do it. If Bud would have played Giannis and Middleton about 5 more minutes each, it's all they'd have needed.
I was shocked when I saw the score but obviously the Bucks didn’t care. The starters didn’t even play half the game.
Good to see guys return but man another 19 turnovers.
The NBA died when they put they painted the Hammer and Sickle on the floor. Or maybe it was the red star of the Chicoms? Either way.

Yep. Just look at Sam Dekker. He might be the best high school player in Wisconsin basketball history. The last minute of his team's state title game as a senior was unbelievable. He scored 12 points in the last minute including a 3 pointer with 2 seconds left to win by 1.

He goes to Wisconsin and hits gigantic shots to get them to the Final 4 in 2015.
He goes to the NBA and hangs on as an end of the bench for 3 years and now plays in Europe.
Basically every guy in the NBA and many in the G league are as good as Dekker.
Dekker benefited greatly from; 1) Playing with Kaminsky, which he got a lot of open shots off opponents double teams 2) Playing in Bo Ryan's Swing Offense, which minimized Dekker having to put the ball on the floor, which was his weakness.

I have a friend that played high level basketball including semi pro ball and he attended a certain university in the Midwest. He’s on their all time list for 3pt percentage and total makes. One of the best pure shooters I’ve seen and this was well before the 3pt small ball craze.
In his day he would have been a swing player probably SG but maybe SF. Really good offensive player and high basketball IQ.
Anyway, he told me a story of having to go up against Ron Mercer in one of these deals prior to the NBA draft. If you recall, Mercer was a top 10 pick for the Celtics out of Kentucky back in the day. My buddy held his own offensively, but got scorched on D giving up like 35 points to the guy.
He told me that was when he knew he wasn’t in the top 1%. Neither was Dekker. Or Brian Butch. But that just goes to show how good some of these players are.

And then consider the fact that Mercer was never even close to a top 50 player in the league. No all-star games. His player efficiency rating in his best year was 14.1 (average is considered 15).
And then think about how no one in the NBA can guard Giannis without help. Even Kawhi 'shutting him down' was really Kawhi being an all-time great defender being able to force him towards 2 other elite guys near the rim (M. Gasol and Ibaka).
That’s my point. Mercer was a starting caliber player in the NBA. Solid but nothing spectacular. There’s a ton of Mercer’s in the NBA.
You can be a really, really good player and not even make a pro roster. Or sit on the bench.
Also it can be somewhat dependent on the system you play in. Take Dekker, he couldn't have played in a "dribble-drive" (Kentucky) offense in college, it didn't fit his skill set. In the NBA sometimes it comes down to what is the best thing you do and then are there other guys on the roster that they already have that do that one thing better than you do. Watching the "Last Dance" I'd forgotten that Rusty LaRue was on that team. I'd coached against him when he played in high school. He was on that team in case Steve Kerr got hurt, his skill set was similar , but not quite as good.
