Down by 11, Bucky looks to turn things around, in the 4th Quarter.
I completely underestimated how much Chryst effed this program. Poor recruiting, poor hires.
I am not convinced JL is the guy to take over. I am beginning to think no.
Mertz with one of those throws that shows you why the coaching staff picked him over Coat. If he could just avoid the idiotic plays, but he can't.
Nick Herbig with another idiotic penalty. I know he's one of your best players, but you have to have more control than that.
Good Mertz - on the TD pass
Bad Mertz on the 2 point conversion where he misses a guy by 5 yards.
TD Wisconsin . Herbig? Gets the unsportsmanlike conduct? He was disqualified. He should be nowhere near the field. STUPID!

It's one thing to lack talent. It's another thing to lose games because of lack of discipline. Unforced penalties like the false start on 3rd and goal from the 1 that lead to 3 points instead of 7. Mertz throwing idiotic interceptions to set up one Nebraska TD. Herbig setting up another with an obvious targeting call. Herbig with another penalty for coming on the field without a helmet.
Herbig seems like a good kid who has now made two killer mistakes in a game that Jim Leonhard needs to win. But the culture and apparent lack of accountability for mistakes is what looks worse than the lack of talent.
I wonder if Herbig had put his helmet on, would he have been penalized?
Wish JL would have just kicked the XP (too early, IMO).
Bucky needs a turnover. Torchio up.

I think with about 10 minutes left you have to try to get within a FG. I hated the play call though.
Braelon Allen looks like he is running in cement.
Allen injured on the TFL.
Jim Leonhard's future on the line. 3rd and long and he needs a play from Graham Mertz. What could go wrong?

Mertz with an NFL-level throw. It will probably be ruled incomplete, but that looked like a prime Aaron Rodgers-level throw on the move.
What a catch! Ruled incomplete.
Chance for Mertz to be a hero.
Nebraska selling out by having guys chase down the line of scrimmage from behind the play. Seems like a bootleg or some kind of reverse action would work for a big play
Why would Wisconsin call timeout there? There are 53 seconds left. Let the clock run. If they do go ahead, they just saved time for Nebraska to come back. If they don't score, it wouldn't matter anyway.
Again, who is directing these clock management decisions? This just doesn't make sense no matter what happens
On Guerendo's 1st down run, if he would have cut to the left, instead of going inside, he may still be running.
TD Mertz, on the sneak!
Great to go ahead, but why in the world did you manage the clock to leave 35 seconds on it? Really, really poor time management calling timeout twice down there.
Channeling his inner Bart Starr in the Ice Bowl!
Mertz with the TD. Yeah, don't quite understand the use of timeouts there.

You look very astute in retrospect. Going for the 2 can be debated and I thought it was the right call.
But the time management was idiotic leaving 35 seconds.
Should be less than 10 seconds on the game clock.
Bad clock mgmt on both sides.
Saved JL!
Badgers bowl eligible. Probably saves Leonhard's job.
Win helps, but never thought Jim Leonhardβs future at #Wisconsin depended on record. If Iβm AD Chris McIntosh, only thing I need to see from Leonhard is a comprehensive plan to fix broken offense. Scheme, coaching staff, recruiting approach, type of QB β everything is fair game.

Agree with Oates. My sense is that JL likely gets the job regardless of the game today.

If they keep Leonhard, I don't see them ever being worse than they are right now. They may not ever really contend for a title, but they'll be no less than a 7 or 8 win team every year.
If you let JL go and bring in a new guy, you are almost certainly going to have an exodus of transfers and likely suffer through at least a couple of 4-5 win seasons before you upgrade the talent.
I'm sure I'm the only 1 but I have no issues with the time outs. As bad as Mertz is JL wanted to make sure he understood the play calls. I could have just seen Mertz going all AR12 and passing to try and get the TD. JL or Engram had to make Mertz understand what they wanted done. And nebraska would ahave never scored with only 35 seconds left. Actually only 28 after the kick-off.

Could have kept Chryst for a 7 or 8 win team.
Only thing worse than the time management at the end was Nebraska taking a time out on defense. Probably doesn't move the needle in afterthought, but no reason not to keep that in your pocket.
I have thought 3 or 4 times that I have seen the last game for Guerrendo, kid keeps proving me wrong

Good point about Mertz, but you could have still run the clock down a bit and then taken a timeout.
