I would say Caputo would have made a tackle on at least one of those long runs. at least 120 of those yards were on 3 runs. Not sure why they didn't sun a few more sweeps on offense instead of running into the pile. The FG miss at the end of the first half was a real letdown. Killed momentum. Then came out flat on the first drive of the 2nd half.

Plenty of missed blocking assignments on the OL. Costly missed tackles on Defense and some boneheaded penalties all lead to the loss. The good news is all of those gaffs are fixable with a some coaching and playing time/experience.

I was expecting a huge blowout by Bama but WI held tough and never gave up. WI definitely  has some work to do but I think this team is headed in the right direction. Better days ahead for sure.

What happened to Clement ? Injured ?

It turned out to be a blowout don't kid yourself.  The score didn't indicate how badly Alabama physically dominated in the trenches.

Caputo and a healthy Clement would have made it closer but the Badgers don't have the horses right now to really compete with a top notch team like the Tide.

This Bama team might be the best front seven on D the Badgers have faced in 10+ years.  Maybe TCU in the Rose Bowl year but the OL was overmatched and outclassed and that was a huge factor in the game

Yes, but how good did Bamas D line have to be to get the best of 3 OL starting their first game like WI did ? By no means am I saying WI ranks right up there with teams like Bama , O$U etc. Most likely they never will but my point is these new guys will learn as the season progresses and get better in time.

I fully expected an O$U type blow out before the Bama game and that didn't happen. Bottom line for me is that even though a lot of things didn't go well for WI in that game there were a few positives that WI can build on going forward.  Then again, maybe it's the WI homer in me talking. LOL Time will tell.

I think there were a lot of positives.

Biggest thing for Wisconsin is when guys go down the fall off in talent is pretty big, Bama was running three deep at every position.

Bama will get beat this year because they are not very good at QB.  I didn't see anything that would have me scared of that passing game.

The biggest positive to come out of the game is I thought Stave played really well.  That Bama D is no joke and he stood in there and made a number of plays.

As for Alabama losing a game - I would say that's a fair statement considering who they play the rest of the season.  Still doesn't diminish their talent and pedigree.  That is one very good team.   If the QB can make plays they might just be the best team in college football

Well this one kind of went the way I thought it would honestly.  It was kind of a typical UW game in a big spot.  They hang tough for a half playing their absolute hearts out against a way more talented team.  Then someone goes out and things unravel and they pee down their legs.  But, I don't feel real bad about it because honestly there are not many teams that can hang in with Bama talent wise.  And I honestly feel that one of these times they are going to do it sooner or later the puncher will knock out the better team.

My only thing is that I really would have loved to see what UW could have done with a typical strong OL which I don't think they are this year.

As for Stave?  I really like the direction he is going in and I kind of feel bad for the guy because he really doesn't have anyone to throw to.

They have problems at QB. That kid missed on a couple throws that were not small misses. He hit a Badger defender in the back when he was beaten by 15 yards. Do that against LSU or Auburn and you're going to pay. I think Bama is vulnerable.

And as someone mentioned, having an undersized DL against that OL is a bad thing. They'll have the same issue against OSU if they play them- they'll get eaten up inside.

Recruit some 300 lbers. There are kids in the Chicago area (a kid for Lake Park that's a mammoth out there- watched him against my sons team this weekend). But he's not going to UW- he's going to MSU. The guys are out here... gotta get em qualified and committed to UW.
