A bust, to me, is a pick that seems like a good thing that goes wrong. The bigger the gap between expectations and performance, the bigger the bust. A lot of people questioned the Russell pick when he was first taken in 2007. No one was questioning Mandarich or Leaf right out of the gate. Russell was a rotten pick, but Mandarich and Leaf were still much bigger busts. Their warning signs were far less visible than Russell's (weight problems, work ethic, bad attitude) were before the draft. Leaf and Mandarich were more successful when it came to hiding their warts until they actually had to start playing games.
