The Knicks interview process spanned both coasts and even took Steve Mills and Scott Perry overseas, where they spoke with David Blatt. The other candidates (some as simply courtesy interviews) included Jerry Stackhouse, Mike Budenholzer, Mark Jackson, Mike Brown, James Borrego, Jay Larranaga, Mike Woodson, Kenny Smith and Juwan Howard. Of that list, Budenholzer is probably the most accomplished candidate - at least recently. However, sources believe he will end up as the next coach at Milwaukee if he doesn't choose to sit out a year and collect his money from the Hawks.

Listening  to the β€œWin in Six” podcast they really endorse β€œBuds”. The Hawks were really good under him, but definitely had a flawed team that played really well statistically. Look at the roster of the 14-15 team that won 60 games... that team made a lot of guys money- Korver, Millsap, Carroll, Jeff Teague, Horford... how did that team win 60 games???

Imagine what that kind of coach could do with a team with Giannis and role players...

What in the F is the JSO thinking publishing this bull****...

Time isn't right for Becky Hammon?

The truth is experienced coaching matters- which could be what makes you hesitate to pull the trigger. That she’s a woman matters not to me, nor should it matter to anyone.

But like the Packers picked McCarthy over a number of more experienced and qualified candidates, maybe she blows you away in the interview with her vision and acumen- that why you interview her.

I still think Budenholzer will be the guy- but interesting that another COTY (this year’s for Pete’s sake) is now available. Casey is well liked by all accounts- I do not know what Toronto is thinking with that move.

You write that and people are gonna hear:

"I'm probably the least misogynistic person you will ever meet."

"I haven't got a misogynistic bone in my body."

"Hell, i have friends who are black!  I mean women!  Sheesh."

I don’t know what your point is. I know my point is that I want the Bucks coach to be able to win... that will do what Brad Stevens is doing, or what Kerr has been doing, or what Popovich has done. If Hammond is that dude, great. I don’t care if she has a vagina.

The premise is that the Bucks shouldn’t be bold because if she isn’t Brad Stevens or Steve Kerr or Popovich the view will be that it was a PR stunt and they can’t afford that perception. I don’t care about that.

The only concern about Becky Hammon I have is her experience as a head coach [EDIT- coaching generally, not head coaching per se]. That lack of experience burned them with Kidd- they thought he was a great PG, understood the game, and that he could learn the rest. He proved he didn’t know what he was doing. He ended up being one of the worst strategists in the game. Hammon has a similar pedigree- but at least she had some time under Pop. She has that over Kidd...

Honestly I’m not sure prior experience is the criteria I would use as there have been plenty of examples of people succeeding or failing in both categories.

The only caveat is some coaches have been successful in multiple spots/locations which I think is something to pay attention to - namely guys like George Karl or Larry Brown or Pat Riley come to mind.

Jason Kidd didn’t work out in Milwaukee because I think he was too demanding and inflexible which I think is an issue with many former stars becoming coaches.  It’s tough to live up to those expectations and what they achieved as players.

I think organizational fit is the driving factor they should be seeking out with their new coach.

Experience doesn’t necessarily mean as a head coach. Tom Thibodeaux was very experienced and when the Bulls hired him he was highly sought after. He had been an assistant for a long time.

I’m saying I don’t know how much she knows about head coaching- and that would give me pause for any candidate. Kidd had none- and the Bucks paid dearly for that when it was demonstrated that he was clueless.

If Hammons is clearly the best candidate and they don't hire her because they think she'll be too much of a distraction, they deserve to lose.

If she isn't the best candidate and they hire her because of PR considerations (we should just call this the "Ray Rhodes" to simplify it), they also deserve to lose.

I also can't believe the JSOnline would publish this ****. The headlines from decades ago are probably the same about not hiring the first black coach manager or head coach because they'd be too much of a distraction, or not signing Jackie Robinson or Satchel Paige because they'd be too much of a distraction, or not wanting a black QB because they would be too much of a distraction.

The Bucks just had to fire a guy who ordered players to miss FTs when there was a couple of seconds left and they were up three points to prevent a "4 point play." It can't get any worse.

Actually, having a situation where the Bucks are being watched closely in every game they play might be the best thing for them. They could use a heavier dose of accountability in many of their players.

Interesting that Khris Middleton was also included in yesterday’s breakfast meeting... and Parker was not. Of course, logically he shouldn’t be, but he was once the β€œface of the franchise” and now he’s not going to be. Period. Is he ok with that? I’m guessing by the complaining he did in the Boston series after game 2 the answer is no...
