As for Smith, the 24-year-old owns a career ERA of 4.76 in 123 innings across two major-league seasons. However, Smith worked almost exclusively as a reliever in 2013, and he boasts a career ERA of 2.45 and a K/BB ratio of 6.33 when working out of the bullpen.

Sounds like the Crew will first try him out as a starter, which is what he was the past 2 years in the minors.
Don't know why everyone is so enamored with Davis, less than stellar glove and IMO, his big wild swings are ripe for huge problems as he goes forward in his career.
But, whatever ... I just hope we get a decent fielder/bat at 1st base.
about what I would expect in return for Nori.
Don't like this trade. Nori was a spark that made this team go. He was good defensively and put the ball in play. I know he was 31 and the pitcher is only 24, but we will be hard pressed to pit someone else in the outfield as good as he was.
1 year of Nori for a few years of a left reliever who might make the rotation, still seems like a good deal to me. Jean can lead off just fine. Davis is cheap, and I'm a little surprised Doug is going with cheap youth, but I like it.
They were handcuffed by the fact that he only had 1 yr left, but Aoki's a pretty solid player and I don't think WIll Smith is that good. Great pickup for the Royals IMO for very little
It would have been nice to get something more for Aoki because he is a pretty good leadoff guy and he's a good value at a little over $1MM. However, this is the last year of his deal too so I'm not sure what more you could get for him at this point.
The team seems to like Davis and his bat (Melvin likes guys with power) and while I question his defense I have to remember it's not exactly like Aoki was a stud in the outfield either. Gomez can cover a lot of ground in CF.
If Smith sticks as a starter and a quality one at that, Brewers will have come out fine. Worst case scenario is he just goes back to being a relief pitcher, where he's shown he can be effective
Most LHP take years to mature. Some are in their 30's before they pitch their best ball. Young kid if he stays healthy has plenty of time to get better. Solid pick up vs a one year guy in decline who is replaceable in house.
