Now that the CBA is in full effect there are some new wrinkles in the way the cap works. It may change how teams manage the cap.
With the new CBA teams can carry over unspent cap space to the next year. The Packers can if they want to carry over 7 million to this year’s cap. They do not have carry over the space or spend it and carry over what they do not use to the next year cap if they want.
Teams have to spend at least 95% (the number maybe 97% I seen both reported) of their allotted cap space. The role over amount is not part of the 95%, but what unspent cap is left (up to 6 million this year) can be rolled over to the next year cap number.

I know the new rules cap rules are not so straight forward. To make it more confussing a team does not have to spend 95% of their cap space but an average of 89% over the lasr three years. There is also some pervision in the new CBA were teams can borrow cap space from future years. And what they do not spend in each year they can if they want role the unspent cap space into the next year. Up to 12 million this year. There are now all kinds of games teams can play with the cap.

In simple terms the Packers can for one year increase thier salary cap by 7 million from the roleover.
Dashon Goldson is quite shiny... but I doubt he's going anywhere new for anything less than half a bank.

quote:
"Hopefully, it will be this team,'' Goldson said. "But I'm open to all 32 teams."

Coach Jim Harbaugh would like to see the 49ers get a deal done with Goldson.

"He's somebody I think you reward,'' he said. "He plays every game. He can find the ball. You know he's out there. Opposing offenses know that he's out there.

"Who will reward you if you don't reward those people?"

Landry is a FA so wouldn't cost picks... Revis would be a trade and I don't see Thompson doing that. For FA S there are Goldson, Byrd, and Landry... Byrd is probably going to stay in BUF and Goldson will want Ft. Knox. if SF doesn't keep him. Landry's injury past might make him more affordable with a big up side.

Irregardless.

I could care less.

Saw.
6 mil/year wouldn't even put him in the top 10 for highest paid Safetys. Antoine Bethea, Quinton Mikell, and Tyvon Branch are all making between 6.5 and 7 mil in 2013. It's a little high for a guy that doesn't produce many INTs, but it's not unreasonable really. He had 100 tackles, 2 INTs, and 8 PDef last season for the Jets. Not eye popping numbers, but Jerron McMillan and MD Jennings combined didn't produce those numbers.
