And the beat goes on...
Green Bay - The following is a summary of Packers coach Mike McCarthy's pre-practice press conference Thursday morning:
(On Bakhtiari) Dave Bakhtiariâs getting better. Heâll do a little bit more today than he did yesterday. I think Dave and Sam will go all the way into Saturdayâs practice out there to really get a clean evaluation.
(On caliber of Arizona Cardinals)I think Arizona is an excellent football team. Very well-balanced on offense. Carson Palmer is playing great. The run game is excellent. The perimeter is exceptional. I think they play excellent team defense. Their pressure packages are very good, very aggressive. They do an excellent job taking the ball away. So itâs an excellent football team.
(On Mathieu being out) Obviously, he's a dynamic football player. As you go through the league, he's a fun player to watch. He makes a lot of plays. Our focus is how they're going to adjust to it.
(On Rick Lovato working at a sub shop when he got the call from Packers) Hey, I respect that. Yes, he has to hit the spot, but also he has coverage and protection responsibility. This is what heâs done for a long time, too. The practice part of it, everybody felt very comfortable with his snaps and so forth. Heâs on top of it. More importantly, heâs with Tim and Mason, so thereâs a lot of experience around him.
(On coverage) He has history and obviously we worked him out a few weeks back, but I have confidence in what his job responsibilities will be Sunday.
(On making sure coaches stay home on Christmas) I would definitely say it was part of the challenge years ago when we first started doing this, but everybody gets it. You can see it really starting last week and every night this week. Weâve really been burning the midnight oil to make sure everything is done before we leave here today.(On whether Christmas is a distraction) I donât think itâs a distraction. I think itâs a big dose of positive reality. Just the energy in the meetings, the energy in interaction with groups. Theyâve already started gift exchange. Thatâs the way itâs supposed to be
(On defense) Well, Iâm not really focused on where we stand or where we rank. Weâre going to go out and challenge their offense. We have a way we play defense, thatâs not going to change Sunday. Theyâre studying our tape and thereâs things theyâre going to have to handle, too. Thatâs why you play the game. Defensively weâre looking forward to challenge.(On how Cardinalsâ downfield passing stresses a defense) It stresses the defense because to me they hit all the quadrants of offense. They donât really lack for what they want to do on offense. When you can run the football and benefit from a play-action passing game off of that, they do a good job of balancing their tendencies. So a very good offense.
(On poor third-and-short offense) You have to look at the video. I just think you stay true to what happens before, the matchups and stuff like that. We need to do a better job on third down, but Iâm not scratching my head. We have a good plan this week, and we need to practice it today. Today is the day for short yardage and red zone.
Since we have a good plan pick the Pack
Classic!

QB Carson Palmer "Weâre expecting to be on some silent count because thereâs going to be a lot of Green Bay fans here and itâll be loud."

@TomSilverstein: #Packers practice: As expected, Shields, Bahktiari not taking part. Elliott, Guion present but not working. Sitton did some drills. Daniels participating.
We're nobody's underdog.
Tdog touched on it earlier. Nearly every time we're underdogs, we win &/or we cover.
Of course, now that I said this.....
Now I'm hungry
Daniels was limited last week & played, expect the same this week. As long as we have Tretter, Linsley's injury isn't a big deal.
Of course Jayrone & $am are out. I'd expect nothing less.
Over 45. Sounds good.
Sh!ts chess it ain't checkers.
Push.
24-21. Pick 'em.
Game will start slow. Furious 4th quarter. Both teams finish in the High 20's to low 30's.
Maybe this post should go in the prediction thread.
It would be cooler if you did. Alright, alright, alright.
Just sayin...
Palmer is a veteran who is coming off a revision ACL tear. We have him as a high injury risk heading into 2014. Revision (second tears) of the ACL carry a lot more risk than those ACLs that are being surgically repaired for the first time.
SEASON | LEAGUE | INJURY | ANALYSIS |
---|---|---|---|
2014 | NFL | Shoulder | Palmer bruised a nerve in his shoulder in week 1 that prevented him from being able to throw. He sat out the next few weeks |
2014 | NFL | Knee | Palmer tore his ACL in week 10 and was placed on IR |
2012 | NFL | Rib | Carson Palmer broker his rib and left the game in a match with Carolina Panthers. He later missed another game. |
2008 | NFL | Nose | Palmer took a hit on his nose and left the game. He later had to miss one more game. |
2008 | NFL | Ankle | Carson Palmer suffered a left ankle injury early on the game against Tennessee and was sidelined in the game |
2008 | NFL | Elbow | An inflamed right elbow caused him to miss one game |
2008 | NFL | Elbow | Carson Palmer tore a ligament on his elbow which caused him to miss 7 consecutive games this season. |
2005 | NFL | Knee | Palmer tore his ACL and missed the 2005 post-season |

The press conference after the first cabinet meeting:
Injury report: The secretary of the interior is still lost somewhere inside the country, we have a plan to locate him in place now. The secretary of state pulled a hamstring getting out of bed this morning and won't be with us.
On secretary of defense appointment: TT will do fine in this position. He has plenty of experience drafting and developing. We have a long term goal to be ready for anything the world throws our way in about 5 years. We also look forward to TT's ability to tighten the government purse strings as secretary of the treasury.
On secretary of the Nav appointment: Don Capers should be able to plug the holes in our depleted Navy. He has been doing this his whole life. Hopefully it amounts to more than rearranging the chairs on the Titanic.
Etc. .............
Saturday update:
#Packers LT David Bakhtiari (ankle) downgraded to doubtful for Cardinals. TE Justin Perillo (hamstring) and CB Sam Shields (concussion) out.

Long painful season.
I guess, if it the Pack can't win this weekend, I would rather have Bak and Shields back and healthy for the next week. Of Course there is no guarantee of that either.
So does that mean Barclay at LT?
