He’s also not won shit as a HC.

He’s won more as a HC than McVey did.

McVay was an NFL assistant of 8 years and had 3 years as an NFL OC and he was still a risky hire. Riley has 3 years total of coordinator and HC experience at a Power 5 school with zero bowl wins. He’s probably a good coach, I wouldn’t hand him an NFL team with basically no resume though.

Will Murphy and Gut make their move now or later?

No way he's gone before the end of the season.  I'll be surprised if he even get fired at all.

You think McCarthy's back next year? How??

Hey Rodgers would you please force a ball to a receiver even if he isn't open  just fricking once. I swear he is more concerned with throwing an interception than maybe completing a pass

Surprised yes, but disappointed, No.

And the Packers are about to fall to 4-6-1.

Go figure.

The Rodgers stat doesn't altogether measure his play.  He's been off a fair bit.

He missed Adams on that sure TD, but in the end it didn't matter. They didn't get the defensive stop after the kick anyway.

A lot of it is that the only guy he is throwing passes to (I don't count Kendricks) that he has practiced with previous to this year is D. Adams. He's also been limited in practice all year. MVS, ESB, and Jimmy Graham probably have about a couple dozen practices with Rodgers.

There was also the ~2 yard pass to the flat.  He He was so off he threw the ball in the ground.  Also did that in a crucial moment of the Seattle game.

Perhaps, but we don’t need to add interceptions to his resume. But yes, I can see your point. Better receivers would help. The queens WRs bailed them out a couple of times.

MM reports to Murphy.  I don't think he has the balls to fire him.

I'm sure you read my stellar write up of Lincoln Riley on this site a few days back. But why is his team so unbalanced ? That is concerning.  And he has not won anything.

Is McVey your standard ? Not won anything , yet.

That’s a fair point KC, Murphy seems like he’s only interested in being the NFL business liaison, but I do think the structure we’re seeing was meant as the final test for MM. I think they told him they would get him whatever he needed and here we are. I think the point of this structure was to protect MM from a new GM cleaning house IF things improved. Most GMs want their guy and not a holdover, so I think Murphy thought MM wasn’t A or THE problem and wanted to protect him. I expect Gute will hire and be over he next HC.

I don’t read anything you post typically, and will should get back to that position

To be fair, were probably not going to get anyone who has won something. SAban and Dabo and urban aren't coming.   And we have some one who has won something.  You want a new coach?  They are all crapshoots.

A new coach doesn’t have to have won a SB, but we need someone who has experienced winning in the NFL. Very few college coaches have won in the NFL, in the last 20 years (or more). This isn’t Barry Switzer taking over a dynasty, the new HC is taking over a team doing a soft rebuild. Vic Fangio looks like a primo option if he wants to be a HC.

Well it wasn't really stellar, but Riley has some definite intrigue. The guy is an offensive guru.. Serously wonder how thier defense can look so awful though. Maybe a sign of what today's football has become.

Why is every season now significantly impacted by injuries. We seem uniquely plagued.

I was thinking the same thing.

When you have absolutely no depth because of years of bad drafts and terrible FA management, you get that feeling

Gute decides that the real problem with this team is and has been a giant void of talent, and he realizes that MM has been a highly successful NFL coach but even he can’t polish a turd.  So Gute’s plan from the start has been to fix the talent problem and give his coach the time to once again develop the team into a winner.

I’m not saying I agree with this or that it’s Gute’s plan, but if MM is back next season, my guess is that’s the reason why....and I wouldn’t be surprised if that ended up happening.

I was at the game. It hinged on the blown 4th and 1. Up the middle? Really? Tons of Packer fans as well as an appearance by the Paul Bunyan axe. Ouch.

They said on the radio broadcast that MM is actually 0-8 in road games.

As for the Vikings, I'm seeing a first round Wild Card out. Probably via a missed FG which would be awesome.

Rogers just said: "We had a couple good drives, we were rollin' there, and then we hit our unfortunate typical lull."

In other words, "[I hate the person calling the plays and I don't understand why he's still here. I'm hoping something changes tomorrow.]"

Ball slipped out of my hand ?

I know Williams was wide open, but I wanted a bigger play and took the sack instead ??

Nope, he talked about spacing and timing and execution. Praised the defense, and said we all need to play better, “myself included”.

But he may have been thinking what you wrote.

Due to injuries and declining talent it’s harder for Gute put the nail In MMs coffin. So I think he makes it to the end of the season because some of this is not MMs fault. Notice I only said some.

Drew Brees lead the Saints to a 7-9 record ‘14-16. He threw 102 TDs and 43 INTs, but anyone who was watching knew he was just as much the problem as their crap defense was. In each of those season they were 5-8 by week 14, essentially eliminated from the playoffs before Christmas. They finished each season 2-1 in meaningless games and Sean Peyton was on the ropes. There was plenty of talk about blowing it all up.

Why is this relevant? Because unless you’re Bill Bellichik, having a Superb Owl contender every season isn’t realistic. It isn’t a birthright, and it’s really hard to do. I once fancied McCarthy as comparable to Bellichik- obviously foolish. The Packers were held up by the greatest thrower of a football ever for a very long time. Now even he is coming back from the clouds. Even the guy who has (or will soon have) all of the passing records lost- now he’s the front runner for the MVP.

2018 is a bust. Play, develop, maybe overhaul... but this is the ebb to the flow. It sucks, but the system is set up this way. You can’t pay them all and sometimes you whiff on a pick. But if you can hit a few, retool, you have the QB and he’s been challenged to reinvent himself. There’s talent on this team and there’s some needs. Hopefully Gutekunst can dial it up like the Saints have.
