Gary Ellerson (former Packer/WSSP radio guy) theorized that a key reason AJ Hawk had the season he did is because with the absence of Nick Barnett and Chillar he had no one pushing him and no one in the rear view mirror and thus that's why he regressed vs 2010.

I don't know how much I believe that but I don't think it's too far fetched to think Hawk needs someone pushing him either out or to be better then he has been.

Chillar's 29 and if he's indeed healthy he is at least a decent ST player and far better in coverage vs Hawk. Maybe he will make Hawk a little nervous.
This will be an interesting year for the coaches. Hawk did not play as well as he did in 2010. It stands to reason that becasue the defense had so much adversity during 2010 because of injuries, it could relax a bit in 2011 when here was not as much adversity because of injuries. I have no clue if that was the issue with Hawk. A #2 defense became a #32 defense and no one seemed to think there was a problem up to the last game. Packerboi's post makes a lot of sense.
Chillar brings pass coverage skills at LB, which the Packers lack. However, given his injury history the final two seasons with the Packers, I wouldn't be penciling him as anything more than a 3rd down substitute or in on obvious passing downs, which is what the Packers had him in during his last season with us. (Remember the opening game against the Eagles, where Hawk didn't play because the Packers had Chillar in for the whole game because they were in nickel.)
chillar never really stood out in pass protection. Now there was always a bunch of propaganda saying Chillar is a cover LB but as I remember he was getting burned as much as the others.

I would rather have a young guy that can develop than Chillar. But if Chillar was available after a slew of injuries at ILB Chillar would be a Vet presence that could help the defense through the season.
