ESPN's headline just focused on Chryst, but it looks like Gard is also here for the long term. Looks like Barry is making sure his coaches safe even after they bring in a new AD.

https://www.espn.com/college-f...-contract-extensions

Chryst, along with men's basketball coach Greg Gard, women's hockey coach Mark Johnson and men's hockey coach Tony Granato, all received agreements that see their contract extend through portions of 2026. Swimming and diving coach Yuri Suguiyama and wrestling coach Chris Bond were extended through portions of 2024.

I agree with @Tschmack- there was no reason to do this logically. Coaches contracts are guaranteed, so clearly what we’re seeing is Barry taking care of his guys before he’s gone, and BOR signing off. It’s a shit look in my view... Gard has done NOTHING to warrant an extension. Now they’re on the hook for a chunk of change...

What is weird about it is Barry was saddled twice this way with Sodderberg and Guard.   Now he does it to the next AD

*The Christ move is spot in

**Im 50/50 on Guard

Is there a buyout clause built into that extension?   It’s a pretty standard feature in most college contracts for head coaches.

Had UW released Gard after May 31 they would have owed him nothing.  Now?  I’m not so sure.

Barry really needs to explain this one because extending Gard seems really stupid at this point in time.  Talk about rewarding a very mediocre guy.

It’s stupid because Gard was already under contract through the 2024-2025 season.  It’s not like he was going to be a lame duck HC this year.

He had several more years on the books after this upcoming season.
