My college team played Muncie's Cal team my sophomore year. Besides Muncie Cal featured WR Wesley Walker who went on to a decent career with the Jets. Anyway, on one play, my roommate, who was an honorable mention All-America at linebacker, had Muncie lined up as he swung out of the backfield to catch a swing pass. The pass was underthrown and Muncie had to turn back and stop to catch it. In roars my roomie who we all thought had a kill shot, in the back between the numbers -- and boom, he just bounces off Muncie like he'd hit a wall. Muncie wheels and picks up 30 or 40 yards before being ridden out of bounds. He was easily the most impressive player physically we'd ever seen.
It's been a bad month for the players of my youth. George Sauer, Toni Linhart, Errol Mann (Packer in 1968 and 1976), now Muncie. Even former Vikings OT Curtis "Boo Boo" Rouse -- sort of a prototype for Fridge Perry, but on offense -- died a couple weeks ago at 52.

P.S. Joe Francis, who fought Bart Starr, Babe Parilli and Lamar McHan for the Packers' starting QB job in the late '50s, also died recently.
