Well that projects to 52 tackles and 4 sacks for the season, dem some Jamal Reynolds\Alphonso Carreker-esque numbers.

after watching 4 weeks, I am starting to be ok with the LB play, its the d line that is atrocious, when you can consistently run up the gut for 5/10/15 yard gashes, that's unacceptable, those guys need to get changed out, time to start looking under all the rocks.

I may remember wrong, but I think even Carreker had something like 3 or 4 sacks in 1 game vs. the Bucanneers in the Snow Bowl game of 1985.  He wasn't a great player, but was better than Reynolds.

He also has several tackles for loss (same thing as a sack IMO), INT returned 40 yards, forced fumble and I believe fumble recovery.

If we're going to criticize his play, let's include all his stats.

Not sure about the thumb that gave him all the problems last year but he definitely didn't look himself after that pick.  Looked slower than he ever has and no attempt to cut back, opting to take out of bounds.

Clay commented in the locker room that he wasn't going all out on the INT. Also, he was on a snap count yesterday, they were being smart with him with the Thu game coming up.

The problem with the DEF continues to be the DL interior. Someone needs to stuff a sock in Mike Daniels mouth and a boot up his ass.

His injury was obvious but he plays totally on EVERY play!! His the last D player to find fault with. Capers schemes are putrid. TT needs to bring in a widebody now(just large,to plug the middle)  & give the D a chance to make a run stop.

I would suggest it is Peppers who needs to step it up. He is the guy who was going to take the pressure off of clay but he's been relatively non existent. Maybe he doesn't have anything left after all. Or that solid No. 1 pick Nick Perry could step it up and give Clay a little help.

DL snap count from yesterday

Mike Daniels: 38

Datone Jones: 32
Letroy Guion: 28
Josh Boyd: 24
Mike Pennel: 22

Daniels - 0 tackles

Jones had the sack and a TFL - probably the most active of the DL

Guion credited with 1 tackle.      1-3-GB 3 (7:23) (Shotgun) M.Forte right guard to GB 6 for -3 yards (L.Guion).

Boyd got hurt on the first drive and came back and registered 0 tackles (solo or assist).

Pennel's first extended playing time of the season didn't seem to help against the run

Re-watching the DEF, the ILBs rarely attacked the gaps. Too often they are on their heels and appear to be waiting for the RBs to come to them. The DL took up space which is what we hear they are supposed to do in this scheme, but with the ILBs not attacking the scheme doesn't work.

Hawk was more active (and has been since 2nd half of NYJ game), but again it was at the 4-6 yard past the LOS range. Lattimore did attack the hole few times and that resulted in runs of 2 yards and no gain. Lattimore still has work to do in pass defense.

There is no one out there though Boris.

** edit **

It is so thin on the streets and other team's practice squads for DL help right now that Thompson is still only running with 52 on the active roster. Never back-filled the IR move of Mulumba.

I think they whiffed not bringing in Pickett after Raji went down. He can't possibly be any worse than Guion and we know he'd fit in the locker room. I know we are all about draft and develop, but when you are this thin at a position what's the harm in bringing in Pickett at the veteran minimum?

he's playing hurt. don't care what he says. he's clearly slowed down by the groin injury.

nonetheless, I'd like to see more production from him. Have yet to see one of his "holy FS" plays that seemed to happen on weekly basis up until now. He's far too young to be on the downslide. Expect an uptick.

Clay can be dominant when rushing the passer.  He is average, at best, in the run game.  Far too often he is running directly toward the QB, loses containment/runs into the blocking scheme and gets burned outside on run plays.  For the 2nd highest salary on the team ($66,000,000), you EXPECT production out of him.  Making excuses is just that...making excuses (double teams, playing hurt, hair treatment not working, etc.).  By accepting the top salaries, CMIII (and Rodgers) need to be the leaders, both morale wise and production wise.  Right now, with his injury history and lack of production, he is not making the impact that someone who is making $66mil should be making.  His INT this week was a gift, nothing more.  Clay needs to again become that player that CHANGES a game and how the opposing offense operates.

I'll take whatever he can give for the next 10 weeks as long as he's locked and loaded in January.

This team isn't winning **** in January without him healthy regardless of the production he may or may not be providing in week 4. He's the best defensive player in GB.

And Percy Harvin is still looking for his head.

Need a spot for Tretter, he can start practicing after week 6

Clay is great at everything except run defense. Great pass rusher, hugely underrated in coverage, great in pursuit from behind, but on runs made right at him he is a little cavalier in reponsibility holding the edge, and even when he does, too often, he gets handled by tight ends.

Clay Matthews is the best player on the defense, and at (most) times the lone bright spot up front. Nobody should be calling him out after 4 games and 1 sack on a unit that has 6 sacks total (ranked 21st in the NFL).

Only having 52 also helps with his bonus structure.

If there were a player out there worthy for the 53 Thompson would sign them.

That was one of the reasons behind drafting Perry - he's stout enough to set the edge in the run game

According to McGinn, CMIII was double-teamed on 15.8 percent of his snaps and generated only 1 pressure in 26 pass rushes.

We're not talking about Vic So'oto or Frank Zombo here, this is Clay Matthews and his 66 million dollar salary.

We need more production.

But, he was injured....but he was playing too far off the line....but be was playing next to Hawk....but he is the best guy on a pathetic defense.....but he saved 15% on car insurance....

I agree, Pakrz.  $66mil.  Earn that kind of scratch and you NEED to make significant plays.  He CAN be dominant, but for some reason, has fallen into a rut.  CMIII needs to affect how an offense runs and brings terror to them on every play.  The DC needs to constantly adjust to allow him to become more effective (which he should have been doing all along) and CMIII needs to turn those situations into dominant plays.  Everyone is accountable.
