-Both teams were coached by a fat guy named Mike.
-Ted Thompson worked in the GBP front office both years.
-In both 1996 and 1997 the Packers drafted a left tackle. They did the same in 2010 and 2011.
--The 1997 selection, Ross Verba went to Iowa, where Bryan Bulaga attended.
-The Packers had seven selections in both the 1996 and 2010 drafts.
-The starting fullbacks in both Super Bowls for the Packers wore #30, both starting safeties wore #36, both of the starting left guards wore #73. Also both third-string tight ends wore #83.
-Both of GB's second scores came as the result (directly or indirectly) of an interception.
-The Packers beat current DC Dom Capers in the championship game to get to the Super Bowl in 1996/97.
-Both Super bowls took place in the deep MidSouth of the United States.
-The OL coaches, Tom Lovat and James Philbin respectively, both formerly played for the Packers. Lovat's son Mark is the Strength & Conditioning coach.

There's also the very real connections between the JFK assassination and the Rebecca Black Friday song, but I'm saving that for the bye week.

The Kennedy / Lincoln stuff is awesome.

Back on topic....

Both starting QB's were 27 years old.

The coaching staff of 1997 was raided the following year. I hope that doesn't happen after 2011.

I hope we don't lose the Super Bowl this year. I'd rather lose before the Super Bowl if we have to lose.

Winning 2 Super Bowl's in a row would be amazing.

I know there have been threads in the past debating this but I agree. There is no worse loss than a SB loss.

I KNEW IT! Al Davis was on the grassy knoll!!!!

Al Davis will soon be a grassy knoll.
OMG... what a jinx of a topic... did we repeat in 1997? Do we really want to re-live and compare. The buildup to 96 was great, but it was the start of a major disappointment in the years following. There should have been 1-2 SBs more..ugh

As for the Presidents.. here is more. I found this on snopes.com

A month before he was assassinated, Lincoln was in Monroe, Maryland
A month before he was assassinated, Kennedy was in Marilyn Monroe.

However, only Lincoln has been in a Geiko commercial...

It took me a long time to get over that loss, and I hated the Broncos and Shanahan for 2 or 3 years after that game.

agree....but I do put the blame on Holmy....his eqo distracted the team and then the franchise in the following years. He knows it. The players know/knew it...and now...after 14 years....we all can sit back and analyzie those years knowing what it would've taken to win 3 SB's in a row....and I put Holmy at the head of the list.

the only thing that gets me through it...is knowing that the Bronco's were found guilty of cheating the system....and, to this day, I believe it made a difference in some aspects of that game.....

the 49er's and Broncos will always have that asterisk to their SB victories...* guilty of cheating the system

the other part of the blame goes to Holmy

Winning 2 in a row has been done before. Winning 3 in a row, now that would be amazing. And that is why the loss to Denver was so hard for me. I thought we had the guys to do just that, but when you lose #2 you have to start all over.

agree....but the first Super Bowl should've been the year before....Super Bowl XXX...

1. Packers Beat Steelers
2. Packers beat Patriots
3. Packers beat Bronco's

that could've easily happened....

1. the refs were homers against Dallas and Favre brainfarted on the drive....Eric Williams gets away with hands to face and holding...and then cheap shots Jurko....granted we were green and young, but we should've beat the Cowboys that day...

2. we should've beaten the Patriots by a much bigger margin

3. we all know about "Holmy's Fiasco" in San Diego

those were our 3 Super Bowls Window

we now have a chance at another "window"...it can be done if everyone focuses and realizes the dream of making history

couldn't stand Elway from the day he whined himself to Denver. the SB loss cemented my dislike for Denver and it's something I haven't let go of. and look at what it has done to them - they suck. Wink and I love it.
SanDiegoPackFan that is so true. I have always said that we were only 3 more wins away from 3 peating. Beat Dallas in the 1995 NFCCG,then win SB30,and win SB32. Its incredible how close we were to winning 3 in a row then. I feel we have just a good if not better chance at winning multiple super bowls with this current organization. Only difference is the "Super Bowl window of opportunity" may be even bigger now then it was in the 90's. Its also neat that we won the first SB of the decade. If we go on a run of multiple Super Bowl appearances, there is a chance that we could end up being the team of the 2010's decade like the 1960's Packers were...

coincidence? I think not!

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.

Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.

Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.

Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names. (Of course, there's a reason for that.)

Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford'.
Kennedy was shot in a car called 'Lincoln' made by 'Ford'.

Oswald shot from a library then ran to hide in a theater.
Booth shot in the theater then ran to a library

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

WOW! Geaux that was an amazing post--an entire history lecture in one short post. "Linkin" the two assassinations like that was jaw dropping. Thanks.

Huh? I presume by "formerly" you mean "never."

I agree. And isn't "James" Philbin real "Joe"?
