do you guys not remember 1997? We were the defending champs and went to the Colts to play the k-worst team in the league. We lost.

Don't ever get too cocky in this league, or it will humble you!

Just sayin'..... hubris leads to humility.
Can't buy that, 'Wulff.
If the death of Philben's son had an adverse affect on the Packers, I doubt the Colts will be 'sky-high' for their coach.
I generally don't believe in the notion of outside variables having an effect on a team's performance, and certainly don't expect it from professional athletes, but it doesn't make any sense that one team is affected differently than another.
you could be right, Timmy, but remember that game in Oakland some years ago. Our starting QB (can't remember his name.... Burt Fervra? ) played after his dad had just died and had a career night.

This is not Sherman's Packers.
I remember Arians running a lot of bubble screen against GB in the Super Bowl. Maybe we see a good dose of that tomorrow? They have that speedster TY Hilton; they might try to get the ball to him on the edge.

Arians definitely prefers to throw. So we should get a good look at the Pass D. They seemed...not themselves last week.

Yeah, so now I can say...

I TOLD YOU SO!

(sorry, but after all, I NEVER can say that to my wife! ;-)
I've been curious why an excuse being used is that the Colts overachieved because they were playing for their head coach and the Pack underachieved against the NYG because of the Philbin tragedy?

I suppose when one is battling for his life and another lost a life you could say one wants to "battle" the opponent like their head coach is "battling" a horrible disease while a team is mourning a death that has cast a malaise over the club.

However I think both teams definitely had the 'ol "let's win one for ________!" going for them.
Not an excuse but the Colts just may be better than everyone thought at this point. Looking at the rest of the AFC and their devisions, IND could very well be a wild card team. It's early and they will have a hard time matching that intensity from sunday, but sometimes a win like that allows a young team to gain some confidence and take a big step forward. Especially if they get some of their injured players back.
If we make the playoffs I am totally gonna give Mike McCarthy some cancer to motivate the team.

Seriously though, Reggie White dies, we get obliterated by a crappy Vikings team at home in the playoffs of all things. Walter Payton dies and his ghost blocks a field goal attempt for the win against us. Philbin's kid gets wasted and falls in a river, we crap our pants against the Giants. Pagano gets cancer and we have our largest blown second half lead in 50+ year?

When it comes down to it the Pagano thing is a convenient excuse, but if anything it should have worked to our advantage. Their replacement coach didn't even know the challenge flag rules.
