After watching Thompson at his pre draft presser he looked like a very tired man, more tired then he has ever looked this time of year and I'm confident in saying he is getting close to packing it in. With that said the best choice for his replacement would be John Schneider given his rare combination of youth, experience and ties to the Packers and the community. With that said I personally don't think Paul Allen will ever be fleeced by the Packers ever again and will never let Schneider out of his contract with trying to fleece the Packers of draft compensation, same thing with John Schneider's situation in K.C., so with all that said IMHO the obvious choice will be Russ Ball and I'm not sure I feel all that great about that.

typical bad bob.

I find the word "must" in his headline unnecessary.

but this is a real gem:

On Thursday, some of those in attendance at a pre-draft briefing didn't think Thompson looked particularly vibrant. Many NFL personnel men are blurry-eyed right about now after endless months preparing for a draft that can't get here soon enough, and he also appeared to be a bit under the weather.

the "vibrant" talk, then slips in the end that he"appeared to be" - anyone that heard any audio from that day or listened to anyone else who was there knows that TT was under the weather.  but bob's gotta make it sound like TT is losing interest before he throws in the real cause as maybe a possibility at the end.  stir stir stir bob.

Ball is 54 and turning 55 in August.  He's got executive training from Stanford, but as others have pointed, he has spent most of his recent career managing salary cap.  On paper without knowing him, he might seem more of a fit to succeed Murphy than Thompson.  I don't see how he is on the succession plan for GM since I would expect to see more of a history in talent evaluation.

Maybe they only extend MM one year, so both his and TT's contracts expire the same year? Then the Packers have options depending on what TT is thinking regarding staying or retiring, or whatever he wants to do.

Schneider may have a clause in his contract allowing him to take the Packers job if it opens up while he is still under contract with the Seahawks. It may have been worded that way to help pry him away from GB in the first place. Even if not, he could still possibly leave since the Packers GM would have complete control, vs Carroll having complete control in Seattle. Same title but more authority and responsibility.

They say a HOF QB brings your record to 8-8 minimum. What you do past that is what will define you as a HC.

We saw a pretty ugly stretch of MM minus AR. But we've also seen him win a lot of games when he's got his players healthy. When he had a healthy AR, Jordy, Cobb, Jones, Finley, Lacy, and OL...really who was stopping that offense? Few if any teams.

It's been defensive woes +/- injuries that have been the source of most of the losses. If AR can stay healthy and the team as a whole has even an AVERAGE year of injuries you are looking multiple playoff years to come.

Whether it's Schneider or Elliot Wolf or ____, I don't know too many GM's who wouldn't take MM and that kind of success.
