Hackett's performance as a head coach was as embarrassing as you'll see outside of Urban Meyer.  I've never seen a head coach so overmatched.  It started with his "all about Russ" mantra that handed over the alpha position on the team to the QB.  It continued into a training camp that the local media nicknamed "training glamp" because of a total lack of actual football.  No 1 on 1s, no 7 on 7s, and almost no hitting.  It was all done in the name of health, only they're the most injured team in the league.  Before the season opener, Hackett was asked if he was nervous for his first game as a head coach. His response - "Nervous? No, I've been through plenty of games.  It's no big deal" or something to that effect.  Total lack of respect for the difficulty of being a head coach.  Then the regular season came and his decision making was so poor they brought in a consultant to help him make decisions (Jerry Rosburg).  With Hackett struggling so bad, he couldn't put the blame on the players and that lack of accountability permeated through the team, where mistakes became the norm.  It was all "sunshine and rainbows" for Hackett and Russ and that became the culture in the locker room, that it was better to look on the bright side than look at the complete disaster the Broncos were.  "Just gotta work hard, execute" was all he could say at the press conferences.

Sad to see him fail so miserably because he does seem like a good person.  But wow he is not an NFL head coach.

If they actually bring in a good coach the Broncos could be better in a hurry. Get Wilson healthy and an offense that works with the personnel they have, and they could be a solid playoff team.

Their potential top free agents are Dre'Mont Jones and Dalton Risner, and they're neither top-dollar guys. The defense should remain good and a functioning offense would straighten things out in a hurry.

I'm not sure Hackett was any worse than Josh McDaniels, so there could be some AFC West competition for a Head Coach candidate.
