Packers TE Tom Crabtree signs with Buccaneers

Backup Packers tight end Tom Crabtree signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Rob Demovsky of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports.

No contract details were available.

Earlier on Friday, a source said Crabtree had drawn interest from several teams, including the Packers, who were hoping to re-sign him.

Had they put a tender on him, even the lowest one for restricted free agents at $1.323 million, they would have had the right of first refusal and could have matched any offer Crabtree received.

But when they decided not to tender him, Crabtree was free to sign with any team.

yes I liked having him around. interesting blue collar football player who took advantage of most of the opportunities GB gave him in the offense. tough hard-nosed guy who realizes he's playing a kid's game and getting paid.

however, no deal breaker for GBP success. I wish him well - stay away from the hookers and blow down there.
It's beginning to look like a bit of a housecleaning in GB. I would have thought TT would offer Crabtree a bit more than the vet's minimum to stay, just to keep his blocking skill around. Quarless can be that guy, provided he's healthy, but our other tight ends act like they're allergic to blocking. We can't have 10 guys catching the ball on the field at once; we need some maulers.
liked Crabtree as well. AR tweeted that he hasn't played with many better teammates than Crabtree.

Still, that's no excuse for his play last year. Yeah, he had those big plays against the bears, texans and cards but he was awful in run blocking, which is his main purpose.

TT will be looking for a TE in the middle rounds this year for sure.

Vance McDonald is a guy i really like. They met with Kelce (TE from Cincy) at the combine.
I'm a little pissed at Crabtree. You would have thought he'd have taken the Packers offer of less money so he could help them win a SB this year. He could have signed the one year contract and then hit free agency next year when he may have had more value. I feel like he dissed us Packer fans, f' him and his twitter account too!!! Inked up bitch

Good luck in Tampa Crabtree. I'm sure Tampa has watched the film and knows what they are getting. He ain't worth the cash they paid.

Tom Crabtree accepted a two-year, $1.6 million contract from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

$1.6M / 2 years = $800k.

Packers offered around $700k for 1 year.
