Cards lost too.      And with Woody pitching on Wed. I like our chances of getting at least back in a tie for 1st.    Yelich, McCutchen and Wong are all raising their BA and it has shown up in improved run production.

The Brewers offense is a bunch of guys that (at least at this point in their careers) are slightly above average. Basically, every one of their 9 most-used position players have OPS between 700 and 800. For perspective, there are 43 regulars in MLB that have OPS above 800 and the Brewers don't have a single one. There are also 36 regulars in MLB with OPS below 700 and the Brewers don't have a single one in their lineup.

There are no black holes in the lineup, but also no all-star level players. They have 11 guys with between 8 and 22 home runs, so every one in the lineup is capable of hurting you, but no one really scares you.

That's why the Hader trade baffled me. I get trading him at this point, but move him for a bat that can help you this season. They needed a rental like Josh Bell who has an OPS approaching 900.

The closer wasn't Hader. Obviously. Wasn't Williams who needed the rest. Wasn't Rogers who was apparently damaged goods prior to the trade. Crazy how much the dynamics change in such a short period.

After Sunday all I read was Brewers are 2-5 since the Hader trade. They never mention Hader blew 2 saves in a row prior to the trade. I feel he is more washed up than Rogers is injured.  Sure, a bat would have been nice, but with a little work with a hitting coach and Ruiz can be special.  You can't teach the speed he has.

That throw by Caratini was fantastic.  To get that much on it from his knees was amazing.

And for Taylor to score was also something.  His foot was basically on 3rd base when the LF picked up the ball.  He should have been out by 10 feet or more.

It was a terrible throw but a very good move by the 3rd base coach even if he's out by 10 feet. Yelich was going to end up on 3rd after the throw home with one out anyway.
