I like that they scraped out a run, then got another. Sending Braun was stupid. Against a better team, it could have cost them.

Gallardo settled back down in the 6th/7th. Good finish.

Rizzo is the real deal, man. K-Rod got all he could handle in that at bat. Really worked him to get the full count, and K-Rod finally gets him with a filthy change. Great battle there.

Anything less than a sweep to me is a missed opportunity. It's cold as hell today in Chicago, so it'll be like an April game. Fiers pitched well this past weekend. Need it to continue...

Despite the loss, Peralta is tied for second on the team in quality starts (16, tied with Garza and Yo, one behind Loshe).  Not his best outing, but he (and the rest of the starters) have been better than I thought.  Remember when the bloggers out there clamored to send Willy down in favor of Estrada?  Their causal ignorance shines almost daily.

I kinda noticed from a far that the Cubs were playing pretty good lately but I did see this posted on everyone's favorite blog this AM:

Since May 1st:
Brewers----46-47
Cubs--------43-50

(you can cherry pick some pretty good info there as well)

Any team can lose to anyone anytime (jeenyus!). It's a marathon, not a sprint (jeenyus, part 2!). Despite the 4 of 6 to the Giants and Dodgers, our club still doesn't seem to be playing as well as it can. Hopefully they have another good run in them the next month and half and can hold on.

He may have. I can't find it however. He may have had that opinion and if he does, I don't agree but I'm OK with that. Opinions are funny. Some here thought trading Aoki was silly and now the club has a very good reliever and a starting left fielder who has been pretty darn good in his first 162 big league games. Some thought giving GoGo an extension was premature (me) and that was proven to be a jeenyus decision. I may be in the minority with this belief but sometimes ones opinion can prove to be false eventually.

You should start a blog, I'd visit...

I've just been enjoying the season of being in first place almost wire to wire so far.

Cubs have been playing decent ball and the Brewers split with them on the road. Better than losing 3 out of 4 but a 1 game lead vs a 2 game lead heading to LA means deep caca? This is what happens when you convince yourself before a series that nothing short of a sweep is acceptable.

If they can't beat the better teams in the league then they have no business making the playoffs anyway. Just go win some games. The teams chasing Milwaukee have their own injuries to deal with.

I was a little torn on this. The pitch count was high, but even the Cubs announcers mentioned how easy his innings were - no real stress situations.

I suppose RR was thinking long-term with Garza out and Lohse's ankle potentially causing rotation issues, but I wouldn't have minded seeing 1 more inning from Fiers.
