How come Front Row Amy always looks so lonely?
I remember being 8 years old and all kinds of confused when Fingers was closing games for the A's, coming in in the 3rd, starting games, pitching 3 innings to end games. Dick Williams used him everywhere. He was one of my early baseball heroes behind Reggie, Sal Bando, and Joe Rudi.
Man, those A's teams of the early 70's were iconic. Off the top of my head I can pretty much name their line-up....how many teams can anybody do that for anymore? I couldn't get 5 Red Sox right from last year with a gun to my head.

Why did they screw around with Axford when they had Krod?
Axford had unhittable stuff for about a year and a half---then lost it, like 80% of relievers do.
They put a statue of Bob out in the nose bleed seats. Maybe some day Amy will have one.
If you remember a few years back, K-Rod had his major struggles as well. While I agree with BK, I also think a ton of any pitcher's success is due to confidence. With closers it's magnified because its such a small body of work.
Glad to see Garza pitch well. Cubs were a tball club for awhile the way they were tossing the ball around haphazardly.

It's like most all Pitchers. Wait for the dead-arm period or minor injuries start to pop up and the meltdown will commence.

probably the same reason a good major league hitter hits only .300. Unless you're Rickie Weeks.
The starting pitching has been excellent and I love the fact that every time they go out there they have a fair chance to win. On top of that, Garza's moxie and aggressiveness really works well with these guys and I think he'll only get better

Braun taking practice swings with the donut, just before the start of the game on the top step of stairs of the dugout, plunked Segura on the right side of the eye.
It wasn't a pretty sight. No word on extent of injuries as of yet.

Braun bunting in 8th and replaced on defense in 9th. I think his thumb is acting up again. Can't afford having him and Segura on the DL at the same time.

Seggy should be okay according to post game from RR
Braun getting hurt wasn't thumb, it's an intercostal injury. (Like I know what that is... Ribs or back strain or something.) Segura has no concussion or fractures. No DL for him, but both will probably miss a few games according to RR.
That's somewhat good news but man, are they going to be short staffed tomorrow. Remember no Maldy also.
If they get any injuries tomorrow, you just might see a Pitcher playing in the field.
