It didn’t take Brandon Meriweather long to find a new team.

Less than 24 hours after the Patriots released Meriweather, he has signed with the Bears.

The Bears announced that they’ve signed the safety to a one-year contract. No word yet on how much he’ll be paid.

Meriweather played in all 16 games for the Patriots last year, starting 13, and he’s been chosen to the Pro Bowl each of the last two seasons.

TT is such a conventional GM. He'll never be good enough. Look at the innovators in D.C. and Oakland!
Nice to see we are starting to compare Ted with franchises up to his GMing standards.

They'll probably draft a QB or two next year and roll the dice again to see if they can fill the backup positions.

Brohm didnt work, Flynn did. Not bad.

Two things that caught my eye. Rationale for keeping so many TEs?

The Patriots lost two tight ends they were hoping to put on the practice squad. Both players went to division rivals.

Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports quarterback Scott Tolzien was claimed by the 49ers. Center Colin Baxter was claimed by the Jets. The Chargers hoped to put both players on their practice squad. It appears Tolzien will be San Francisco’s No. 3 quarterback.
I know the 'let's sign other team's reject player X' posts are always entertaining...but this guy's a bit different IMO.

Panthers cut DE/OLB Everette Brown - a guy they traded a future 1st rd pick for in '09 to select in the 2nd rd of that draft in hopes he'd fill part of the Julius Peppers void. People might also remember he was a guy listed 3-4" taller on the FSU roster which was funny/noteworthy that year.

Interesting if only that they had a guy 6'2"/250-ish trying to play conventional 4-3 DE and nickel rusher. Only 24 years old and supposed to be a OK character guy. Maybe another in a long line of FSU pass rushing busts...or maybe a guy miscast as a 4-3 DE on a bad team and destined for failure in that situation.

He's the same age as Vic So'oto. It'll be interesting to see if he lands with a 3-4 team and how that works out.

TT needs to find a guard. Dietrich-Smith can play center.
Agreed it'd be surprising if they didn't get another backup OL on the active roster. Based on GB's recent history they 'usually' have a minimum of a backup LT, combo C/LG, and combo RG/RT guy.

EDS played LG/C vs KC. I just don't know if they have a RG/RT guy. In the end they have a G/C prospect and two LT prospects - too good to cut but not very good inside thusfar.

You have to wonder if this may be a situation where TT is waiting for post-opening day to sign a vet (and thus non-guaranteed contract). After losing Colledge/Spitz and adding nobody inside (Sherrod is a liability at OG) it wouldn't hurt my feelings if they signed an experienced interior backup. Sure, that's generally against the TT pattern but if Sitton or Wells go down...disaster IMO.

I remember laughing when they made that trade. Always thought he had bust written all over him.

Maybe the 3-4 will help him. (I doubt it)

Dominguez and Genus ARE the back-up guards. I doubt TT brings in anyone else - it'd take too long to learn the system. It's go time. Both these guys are rough but they know what's going on and they're a head above any free agent who comes in cold. Could be wrong, but unless there's a trade - I think this is our team (also hoping nobody pillages our PS).

No excuses for Slo-wit this year - lots of stellar special teams players.

Whoa!

Stay classy, Del Rio.
"Poor" Kampman

Glad he got his bag of money, but he sure took a downgrade on the organizational side

No ring and no chance for one before his career is over

Not really.

A good guy, a good citizen and a bottom-10 QB.

Del Rio is gone if doesn't make the play-offs and he knew the best Garrad could give is 8-8.

All reports say they love Gabbert.....McCown ain't much of a step down from DG.

Not likely with our Mizzou QB on board.

Our? Since when? TT and I will miss you, turncoat.

I think you are probably right on this, knowing TT. Still, if TT does pick up someone I would expect guard to be the position. Dominguez and Genus may develop over the course of the season (that's what PS is for), but right now they scare me. I don't like being scared.

substitute guard for one of the tackles and this is a really good idea.

Hedging my bets once TT's systematic destruction of the Packer roster makes me a Jag fan.

TT is more likely to trade one of those 7th rounders he just got for someone no one knew existed and he will become a starter.

These days I'm a Saints fan first. Well, they might lose. ROTTT.
Yes I'm certain the $8-$9 million dollar price tag on Garrard had nothing to do with his release.

He was going to make as much as Rodgers this year. Yes, I'm certain his release was football performance related only. Especially since the Jags have every game soldout this year.
