51-64  Most are injured players

Can't argue with this ranking for Newhouse - in a word, pedestrian.

51. Marshall Newhouse, T: Demoted after starting at left tackle in 2011 and 2012, the fourth-year pro started two games at right tackle after Don Barclay injured his knee and played in spot duty in three other games (including some snaps at right guard). After allowing 18 sacks in the previous two seasons combined, according to ProFootballFocus.com, he allowed three sacks and committed two penalties in essentially six games this past season. An unrestricted free agent who likely won’t be offered a contract to return.

41-50

Don't agree with this ranking for Jones.

41. Datone Jones, DE: Drafted in the first round (No. 26 overall), Jones was supposed to give coordinator Dom Capers a three-down player who could stop the run and rush the passer. Instead, he almost never played in obvious run situations and was limited almost exclusively to rushing the passer in the dime package. Even those snaps dwindled late in the season. He had just 3.5 sacks, two of which came in the same game. By season’s end, fifth-round pickJosh Boyd was playing more. Actually showed a little flash in some snaps lined up as an outside linebacker late in the year.

Boyd was getting more snaps at the end because Jolly went down. He didn't take snaps away from Jones.

31-40

This is a tough one for Burnett... is it him, or did he spend much of his time checking on Doc Jennings?

39. Morgan Burnett, S: Signed a four-year, $24.75 million contract extension last summer but failed to come up with the commensurate production. Start of the season was slowed by a preseason hamstring injury that kept him out the first three games. Failed to come up with an interception for the first time in his four NFL seasons and missed 11 tackles, second most on the team according to PFF. Allowed completions on a whopping 71.4 percent of the passes thrown at him and yielded four touchdowns. Former third-round pick was expected to be one of the Packers’ top players.

21-30

We remember his one bad play (losing contain on CK), but I thought Bush had a solid season - even on defense.

23. Jarrett Bush, CB: Veteran played perhaps his best defensive football while serving as the dime defensive back over the final five weeks of the season. Did not allow a touchdown pass and had the game-clinching interception in the late stages of the Week 14 win over the Atlanta Falcons. However, he blew containment on Colin Kaepernick's third-and-8 scramble that set up the game-winning field goal as time expired in the playoff loss to the 49ers. Finished tied for fourth on the team in special teams tackles (seven) despite missing four games because of a hamstring injury. Once was one of the most penalized players on the team, but was flagged for only one (an illegal block) in 2013.

11-20

Should be top 10.

18. Tim Masthay, P: Broke his own franchise record for net punting average (39.0 yards) and landed 22 of his 64 punts inside the 20-yard line while having only five touchbacks.

1-10

As good of a season that he had, he was still only ranked 13th for FG %. 12 PKs with 90% or better. Crosby was 5 of 7 from 50+ - his achilles last season where he was 2 of 9.

9. Mason Crosby, K: Followed his worst season (63.6 percent on field goals) in 2012 with his best (89.5 percent, including playoffs) and made the longest outdoor field goal of his career, 57 yards in Week 11 at the New York Giants. It was just 1 yard short of his career best and franchise record, set indoors at Minnesota in 2011.

I agree with that.  I think they also wanted to get a good evaluation of Boyd to see where the situation with the DL is at for next year.

Demovsky wrote this "The rankings were based on how the players performed this season – not on their overall importance to the team."

But I think he ranked them on importance and how they performed. Why else would Flynn be 19? IMO, on performance alone he wasn't the 19th best player this season.
