DeMarcus on the way also....can't wait till 2015 seeing this coming season is already decided, just like last year when the Broncos ended up winning it all. Sucks, its only march and the season is decided already. Bring on 2015!!

Legal pot having a big impact.  Talib would likely have given pot discount.

Regarding dope, when Talib gets mile high and tested, any thoughts on his lawyers fighting the NFL drug policy because dope is legal in Colorado?

Aren't there otherwise legal prescription drugs (Adderall is basically speed) on the banned list?

About 15 years ago, tennis player Larisa Neiland failed a drug test, for... caffeine!  (Seriously.)

I don't think what the Broncos are doing in FA is all that bad.  Elway is "all in" for the next year or two hoping they can get another SB while Manning is still under center.  I'm sure most Bronco fans would trade a Lombardi Trophy or two for a few years of cap hell.

Is that worse than have a manageable cap year after year and consistently finishing over .500?

I totally agree that Denver is in a bit of a different position than other teams with younger QBs.  You can't expect Manning to go for more than a couple more years.  For them, the time truly is now or never unless you really believe Brock Osweiler is the next Aaron Rodgers (I don't think they do).

Like a lot of teams, the Broncos will need to stay healthier than they did last year if they want to win a Super Bowl.  Losing guys like Ryan Clady, Von Miller, and something like 5 other starters, it was pretty remarkable they got as far as they did.  If some of those guys can come back and stay healthy, they've got a much better shot of winning it than they did this past season.

I wouldn't say that Denver's run to the playoffs was that surprising.  While Manning had a great year, the AFC was a really weak conference last year.  New England put their season together with smoke and mirrors, and I can't think of a solid team in any of the other divisions.  The Colts fell apart when Wayne got hurt, the Ravens were a shadow of the Super Bowl team, the Bengals unraveled with some injuries and less than stellar play by Dalton down the stretch.

Denver signed Ward for a good but reasonable deal, if they can get Ware for a reasonable amount the stoopid money they gave to Talib will be offset somewhat.

They have a two-year window with Manning.

Tops.

Ya gotta admit they are all in.  They have a QB that gets them to the playoffs, he has one or two yrs left.  Who knows when they will get a guy like this again, could be yrs.

I think when you have one of these franchise Qb's the future is now.  Will it work, maybe, I hope not.

As the Doors so eloquently put it, the future is uncertain and the end is always near.

I mean I can't fault their strategy. They actually had a good amount of cap space available and with Manning only having 1-2 years tops...makes sense for them to just go crazy to bring in players to try and win immediately. They'll be feeling the effects of it a few years from now though

The thing with Denver is  the clock for Manning maybe already up. The Super Bowl may of exposed Manning's weaken arm strength, or at the least arm fatigue late in the season.

2013 - Shaun Phillips 10 sacks. $1.4 million salary

2014 - Demarcus Ware (12 sacks???). $13 million salary.

I do believe Elway is bludgeoning the franchise and is also planning an exit within the next 2-3 years.

Manning has limited shelf life, they are doing the right thing. Father time is catching Manning up even after that 2013 season.

Now, the question is, will fathers Talib, Ware and Wade learn to dominate in that system for Manning's last year. Anyone here remember Woodson's first year? Anyone remember how long it took Reggie to get his first sack as a Packer?

Favre had a limited shelf life. Ted didn't empty the vault. He drafted Rodgers and found a couple cheap FA's in Pickett and Woodson and drafted kids. Teds plan went a little farther out than all in.

Anyone saying Elway is doing the right thing is making a strong futures bet Denver is winning a SB. in my opinion that's stupidity because winning a SB is really effing hard and not worth this all in bull****.

Ted is as good as it gets. It's going to suck when he decides to move on but he's going to figure out a succession plan. He's pretty good at long term planning.

When has going crazy signing free agents ever worked except for the Miami Heat in the NBA?

The Broncos might be "all in" but I still don't think they are on par with Seattle or San Francisco.

The truly elite superstars rarely ever get to free agency in the NFL unless there is an extenuating circumstance. In the NBA, most players in cold cities or small markets can't wait to get to free agency so they can sign with the marquee franchises. There is no franchise tag to stop them. That's one of the problems with the NBA. The Bucks luck into probably the best player in this last draft (Giannis) as an 18 year old and then will watch him develop into a 22 year old superstar that ends up wanting to play for the Lakers or Knicks. The Packers get CM3 and Aaron Rodgers and they know that they aren't going anywhere so it's in their best interests to sign long term.

I couldn't agree more.

EXCEPT

When was the last time Lombardi Trophies were guaranteed?  Ask the Patriots what happened to their team after they acquired Randy Moss and went 18-0 in the regular season and playoffs.

Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL and I'd rather have a good shot of winning a Lombardi every single season, than a pretty good shot for a year or two and then relatively no chance for 3 or 4 years.

That's just me.

agree.  but...that's not the reason Billacheat and the Cheatriots haven't won a Super Bowl in recent years.

The real reason is Karma.  They won their other Super Bowls by cheating the system.  Once they were outed and couldn't cheat anymore....they haven't won a Super Bowl.

It happens.  Going 18-0 and losing the Super Bowl was no accident.  The Gods of Decency were never going to allow them to win the Super Bowl that season.

One thing that went virtually unnoticed last year was that Denver never played a top ten defense until week 11 - in the week those games were played.  After week 1 and his seven TD passes I started keeping track of that.  So once he got to the #1 defense, the likes of which he had not seen all year, and factor in arm fatigue, etc., it is no wonder that they were exposed.  Give GB a cupcake schedule like Denver had and we might have had a couple more wins while Rodgers was out.
