awww, that's too bad. and jerruh had such high hopes for him this year.

what is it with these guys? no sense of place in society and no ability to control themselves in difficult situations? only way to settle things is slap somebody around, flash a gun or actually use one? who does that? who's that childish? coddled athletes, I guess.

once again, jerruh DIDN'T know better than everyone else.

There is a "thug" element in society that is reflected in certain sports leagues, including the NFL. Why that type of lifestyle would be something to aspire to baffles me, but it has been glorified over the last couple of decades or so nonetheless.
These guys really remind me of the gangsters of the Capone era; there's a lot of similarities in terms of violence, flaunting of wealth, and absolutely no respect for authority of any kind. They're only about 70 years behind the times...
I don't know what the answer may be; as long as there is somebody who is willing to pay mind-boggling sums of money for whatever 'talent' they think they can take advantage of, I don't look for any significant change. It's obvious that the commissioner's personal conduct policy is not having an affect on behavior thus far. He can try to increase the severity of penalties, but that typically creates more problems than it solves, and I don't think the owners want "their guy" taking their talent off the field.
turns out this is for pushing his Mother. if I shoved my Mother over an argument I'd be taking a looonnnggg look in the mirror... but Dez probably thinks she had it coming. I don't know... I'm so glad I can respect the GBP players by and large and enjoy their success. It sure is a turd pool out there lately.
Dez' Mom did serve time in prison when he was a kid for selling crack cocaine and hardly sounds like she was a stellar parent for him since she's had multiple police run-ins.

However, regardless of how she was as a parent you simply don't lay hands on your Mom. Ever.

As others have commented in the past, seems like TT and his scouting staff do take character and upbringing much higher than other teams will. Yes there are the Underwood's and Jollys we've dealt with. And there's no promise that a Packer player could do something stupid. But MM holds accountability and character very, very high. And in his and TT's tenure for the most part it shows.
Jeff Ireland with the Dolphins. He asked Dez if his Ma' was a prostitute. Allegedly Dez responded his dad was a pimp and that ma' worked for him. Semantics.

Somewhere Jeff saw this story and started nodding his head.

Police in DeSoto, Texas, said today that Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant grabbed his mother’s hair and hit her before he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor family violence.

“It’s pretty straightforward,” DeSoto Police Captain Ron Smith said, via the Star-Telegram. “He and his mom got in an argument. It’s physical. She got some injuries. We made the arrest.”

It is not clear to what extent Bryant’s mother was injured, although she did not need to be taken to the hospital. The police report says Bryant slapped his mother’s face with a baseball cap and pulled her hair. Some reports have said the incident between Bryant and his mother began as a fight between Bryant and his half brother, but Smith said he doesn’t know why Bryant and his family were fighting.

Thanks jerruh. For pushing Bryan Bulaga down to us

Source: WFAA - Rebecca Lopez and Jason Whitely

Updating previous reports, Desoto police say Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant pulled his mother's hair and slapped her across the face. The report says Bryant's mother had asked him to leave when he allegedly assaulted her.

Seriously? Assaulting your own Mother?!?! Kick his ASS Roger!

humor can be found everywhere and here's one:

“He’s very remorseful,” Wells said of Bryant, according to Rainer Sabin of the Dallas Morning News. “He loves his mom to death. And that’s about it. No one wants to be in a situation like this. No one wants to go to jail.”

to quote from Scottie...
uh, Mr. Wells, don't you think you should... rephrase that?
Banned from a shopping mall.
Mailed a $76k engagement ring to a beauty pageant winner. Then asked for it back.
Lost a $50k earing in a game against the Giants. Then spent the rest of the game worried about finding it.
Couldn't pay of an $800k jewlery debt.
Tried to "love" his mom to death.

You have to expect it when the guy advising you served as adviser to Pacman Jones and adviser / bodyguard to Michael Irvin during the Kowboy drug trials in the 90's.

Jerry knows how to protect his investments!

Something tells me Dez's Mom has a 12 year old grandchild but neither of them knows it.

And that kid runs a 4.3 40 and his favorite player is Marshawn Lynch.

just what I'm hoping to see in my star #1 draft pick. italics my addition.

Several times this month, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made sure to publicly announce that wide receiver Dez Bryant knew that there would be serious consequences to continued bad behavior away from the football field.

In order to help Bryant steer clear of such behavior, the Cowboys have recently put into place a set of guidelines for Bryant regarding his conduct away from the field. Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com reports that Bryant has agreed to avoid alcohol and strip clubs while abiding by a midnight curfew and attending two counseling sessions each week. There will also be a rotating three-man security team that will leave one man with Bryant at all times in addition to driving him to games and practices. Otherwise known as babysitters

The rules went into place on August 23rd when the Cowboys returned from training camp in California and will remain in place indefinitely.
I truly value my personal space and time away from other human beings, and I'm not talking about my right hand gal Rosie. It's why I live on a dead end road and can't see my neighbors. The invasion to my privacy would hinder rather than help me. For his millionaire sake, I hope Dez knows what he truly wants and the price he'll have to pay for it now. That line has gotten quite a bit thinner. I'm reminded of Little Feat again "those same people you misuse on your way up, you gonna meet 'em on your way down".

Can't believe there was debate around here about between picking him or Bulaga.
I have So had it with them.

It's like they're Proud of the Baby-Sitter Tactic--not the least bit embarrassed about why they feel they need it.

Some Fellow in Some Book somewhere once said, "Football players are a dime a dozen. I want Men!"

Their whole organization is a rolling boxcar of bullship.
could get interesting but probably shouldn't...

The practice of placing individual restrictions on a player’s movements and activities away from the field sets a dangerous precedent, the kind of precedent that the NFLPA may not want to set. (We’ve contacted the union for its position on what we’ll call until we come up with something better the Rules of 88.)

None of it is football related. A nightly midnight curfew. No strip clubs. An approved list of night clubs. A rotating three-man security team. While a team has limited ability to take action if a player gets into trouble away from work, there’s nothing in the CBA that allows a team to impose such proactive measures.

Then there’s the fact that having a full-time security detail could give rise to salary-cap issues, given that folks providing security won’t be doing it for free. (We’ve contacted the league for its position on this specific aspect of the Rules of 88.)

So while Bryant has plenty of reasons to submit to these rules at the request of the Cowboys, the Cowboys arguably shouldn’t have asked. And if the Cowboys are paying for the security team, the value of that service probably should count toward Bryant’s total cap number for 2012.
Dez is in the news again which made me realize what a colossal bust this guy has been. If I were a cowgirls fan I could tolerate the boneheadedness if he actually produced but he doesn't. At all. Just constant failings.

Stick with him Jerruh - after all, you drafted him and you're a freaking genius.

That debate sure existed where I work. I took the side against Dez because of off field issues and the absolute need on the OL. It took a little while but eventually, the arguement went away.

The bottom line is you need both playmakers and an OL to make your QB effective. You invest your high draft picks where you need a starter or very good depth. TT has wisely done that.
