Why is Capers removing Heyward from the dime defense?  I don't see the reasoning for this.  We are moving Hyde down to CB and inserting Dix while removing Heyward.  Strange.

Also, at least it isn't Hawk at ILB..

"The No. 1 dime defense featured Davon House and Shields outside,Tramon Williams as the nickel back, Micah Hyde as the dime back andMorgan Burnett and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix at safety.

Brad Jones was the only linebacker in the dime. For one snap, Barrington replaced him with the No. 1 unit."

"The last time the Cubs won the World Series was 1908. The last time they were in one was 1945.  Hey, any team can have a bad century."- Tom Trebelhorn

Considering Hayward doesn't play in the base, I'm pretty sure he doesn't need the rest.

He's in his early 20s. I'm pretty sure he can handle the increased workload of also playing in the dime. They could keep an oxygen tank on the sidelines just in case.

I guess resting the Hamstring makes sense.

Maybe House has been really impressive in practice and Heyward hasn't?  Given actual game performance, I think we all would want Heyward in the dime.

Joe Whitt said he's just trying to get a look at guys like HHCD and Davon House against top level receivers before making a decision on personnel groupings. I have no doubt Hayward will be on the field just about every snap come regular season play.

Packers zeroing in on nickel and dime personnel

"I want to see House against high-level receivers," Whitt said. "I want to see Casey. This is a way I can see everybody. When we get to the games we're going to make a decision, 'This is the top guy, this is the second guy, this is the third guy, and this is how it's going to be.'"

Thanks for the link BB. This was what I was thinking too. Using pre-season to find strengths & weaknesses of all the DB's.

Gotta put them in the best position to succeed & limit the exposure of their weaknesses.

-- Cornerback Casey Hayward sat out of practice after being limited Tuesday. Packers coach Mike McCarthy said at the time they were holding him out to be mindful of his history of hamstring issues, which resulted in him playing only three games last season. His availability for Oakland isn't known.

"I have no concern," cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt said. "If he can go, he goes. If he can't, he can't. I've been pleased with where Casey is."

So, in other words, he can't go, at the moment.
