Epic.
Mind if I use that one if needed?
Who cares if they can't see through the dome? The Cowboys' new stadium has limited-view seats, and that doesn't seem to be a problem.
1) The cantilevered glass panels are reason number one. If all that were structurally sound on normal days, I would not want to be in that stadium in a tornado or bad storm. Especially with all the broken glass blowing around.
2) The Astro Dome in Houston also had a glass roof originally. They wanted the sunlight to come in to grow the grass. The reflections caused fielders to have problems picking up the (correct) ball. So they painted the roof white. The grass died and was replaced with astro turf.
3) What the artist concepts don't show are the motors and mechanisms that move the top panels to close the roof. When those are included, those, along with the supporting structure will cause intermittent shadowy areas that will also distort perception of where the ball is.
4) Now imagine trying to cool that thing on a hot sticky day and fighting the warming of the sun all at the same time.
Just some thoughts.

Please do Sir Toad.

So you're saying it gets hot in Atlanta? Low E coatings on architectural glass work well, but you've got a great point there.
In all seriousness, I agree - if taxpayers are going to be footing even part of this bill, let's use these projects as prototypes for sustainable energy and save on some costs going forward.
Video fly over of new stadium for Falcons & Arthur Blank
Blank better call Zygi about that bird-proof glass thing
They could talk at the next owners' meeting
Let's be honest. That stadium makes the Vikings new place look like a 3rd world **** hole. And I'm not even a fan of the Falcon's new place. I do kind of dig the dialating metal cervix on top though.
I've been lax on my Viking fan comment posts. Here's one...
"For those who seem to think this isnât a problem, General Mills' building in Golden Valley had lots of birds flying into their glass. They searched for a solution and ended up placing owl figures or decals around to scare birds away. Apparently it helped"
Whooooo's laughing at Superb Owls now?!?!?

Bird proofing a stadium Falcons play in? Why would you do that? I know the Falcons were bad last year but to keep them out of the stadium?
When this project first started the cost was supposed to be 1.2 billion and the taxpayers were supposed to only be on the hook for a mere 200 million. Now it's up to 1.4 billion and the taxpayers are on the hook for 554 million. Then news broke last week that the state was budgeting another 40 million to build a parking ramp for the stadium (orignally was supposed to cost 17 million).
The worth of the team has increased from 545 million to 1.125 billion from the time that Arthur Blank bought the team. Obviously a good chunk of that increase in value comes from this new stadium.
But hey, Arthur Blank is only worth an estimated 2.4 billion, guys like this obviously need taxpayer dollars to afford their modestly built stadiums.
But who could expect the Falcons to play in a worthless, broken down piece of junk like the 23-year old Georgia Dome?
Funny how people cry about the 1% and corporate welfare and all that...unless the guy owns a sports team and then it's "I'd love to bend over for you."
And by the way, the net worth of the guys that bought the Bucks. Lasry = 1.82 billion. Edens = 1.2 billion. And now there is a third, Jamie Dinan = 2.2 billion. How did they make all that money? You got it, hedge funds. Hedge funds are evil, unless you own a sports team in the state I live in. Maybe between the 5 billion these guys have they could squeeze out 200 million and leave the taxpayer dollars alone.
I don't want to get in to the PSL debate but upper level seats at about the 30 yard line will cost you up to $10,000 a PIECE. If you want to buy a ticket to an upper level seat the projected cost is going to be about $325 a pop. You say you would like to sit lower? If you want to be in the lower bowl it could cost you from $15,000 up to $45,000. I can't even begin to image what the beers, food, and parking will cost.
I see the game better at home. I can pause it if I like. I don't have to stand in a line to take a leak. I have better quality food that's less expensive & better quality beer that's less expensive. Plus I don't have to wait to get any of it.
Remind me why I should ever go to the stadium again?
This.
Only stadium I would consider attending is Lambeau as I've never been to a Packer game there.
Lambeau is the one exception to the rule.
Lambeau is a must see for all Packer fans & should be on their bucket list. All football fans actually.
Very very few people have a bad experience at Lambeau

Because you can watch a game with 3 other great Packer fans?
