CRISPR gene editing used to store data in DNA inside living cells

A fun thought to ponder struck me while reading this.  Is it really that implausible an alien culture could possibly be the basis of all life on earth?

It’s the stuff of Sci Fi but just seeing even the most basic steps of coding and storing data like this makes the mind race with possibilities.

Also, I’m trademarking the word “bionary” right now.  I should be a trillionaire right after I’m dead.

There is supposed to be a big disclosure coming up mid year about any information the CIA, et. al. have about UFO's and the like.  The 180 day requirement for them to divulge was written into the last covid relief bill.  I'm guessing that means we'll get thousands of pages of blacked out text.  Not to go down that rabbit hole but it's interesting.

Short of "alien race" origins, we are really all made of stardust.  Nothing on this planet exists from any other place than the rest of the universe.  And aside from the comets and meteors that have peppered this planet (which have been significant), everything that is here derived from the elements that initially made up the initial mass of primordial space debris that eventually resulted in our planet.

The aspect that intrigues me is the possibility of creating DNA computers, for a lack of a better term, not simply data storage.  Carbon based life forms specifically targeting habital planets, then sending DNA computers to execute a life program.  Very scifi but I can't imagine this kind of research would end with simple data storage.

It's intriguing (and scary) as hell to think what could be done with a DNA computer.
