Bakhtiari is holding up under fire, but he also experienced significant growing pains against Cincy. Probably fair to ask if some of the play calling might have contributed to that.
McCarthy still high on Newhouse but no plans to make a line change at this time. Probably just his way of pushing the current starters and letting them know their jobs are not secure unless they play well.
Is it too early to start wondering who gets moved when Bulaga comes back?
We could have 4 tackles worthy of starting if Sherrod ends up being any good and the youngsters continue to progress.
We'll probably have more injuries by then.
Who is the fourth? Newhouse is backup material only.
EDS if we can find another center
I think Bahktiari will finish the season strong and will be entrenched at LT. Bulaga will compete for the RT job with Barclay.

Bahk
Barclay
Bulaga
Sherrod - "if Sherrod ends up being any good"
Counting on Sherrod at this point is rather....optimistic. It would be great of he could come back but he's pushing two years now and it's not like we saw much of him before the injury.
"if Sherrod ends up being any good"
"We" may not have seen much of Sherrod before the injury, but the other OL, namely Sitton and Lang, had some high praise for his progress before the injury.
Next year the OL could be:
LT - Bahktiari
LG - Sitton
C - Barclay
RG - Lang
RT - Bulaga
Depth
Tretter
Sherrod
some college Sr. (draftee or UDFA)
I don't know about Barclay at C though...
"There's two main components that a center needs to have, and it's not quickness or agility or snapping or anything," Rodgers told TSN via SportsRadioInterviews.com. "It's two things: One, he has to have a good height, and I'm talking about where his butt rests. It can't be too low because I don't wanna get deep in that stance and it can't be too high so I feel like I'm standing up. It's gotta be just right. (Jeff Saturday) has got that.
And how do you know if a center has the right butt height?
"It's a feel. My center in college was about my height and he's real low in his stance. So it made me have to kinda duck down a little bit. It's hard to get out of center. Scott Wells my previous center (and) Jeff Saturday: great height. Great butt height.Β"
Wells - 6'2"
Saturday - 6'2"
Barclay - 6'4"
It's all about the butt height.
I was not bought into Barlcay at C when they tried him there this past summer and was hoping GVR would beat out EDS. That said, I can see Barclay at C as he is a tough nut, and I was wrong about GVR and am happy that EDS won the C position as he has played better than many expected.
Isn't butt height related to leg length and not overall height?
It's a feel.
That's what my proctologist says. The giggling is very unnerving.
In the Lingerie Football League would that be considered "Pad Level"?
That's what my proctologist says.
Hopefully his nickname isn't sausage fingers.

Is EDS a free agent?
AR prefers applebottoms
Yes, EDS is a FA next year.

If healthy, Bulaga won't be competing with anybody. He'll start at one of the tackle spots.
No one is handed a job on this team. Bulaga will have to earn his playing time back if Bahk and Barclay finish the season strong. Especially when he's coming off a major knee injury, they won't know what they have until they see him compete. Barclay would have earned the starting job with Bulaga was injured or not, so do you take away the job he earned outright and performed well at? Or do you take away the job of a rookie who worked his butt off and performed really well? Those are bad messages to send to your team.
I will reserve judgement until McGinn weighs in on butt height.

Nonsense. If healthy, Bulaga will replace either Bakhtiari or Barclay (probably Barclay). That's pretty much a given. Bulaga was a Pro Bowl caliber right tackle before getting hurt.

At least he didn't give you a thumbs up!

The second thing is sweating. What is the sweating index for the OL?
I'm inventing a cup with a built in fan.

You act as if Bulaga was our version of Joe Thomas...he wasn't. If both Tackles are playing at a high level by the end of the season, Bulaga will compete. Especially since they don't know exactly what they have with him, you can't insert him at LT from day 1 without knowing if he's the same player. They may wind up going with Bulaga in the end if healthy, but there will be a competition. Everyone earns their spot.
but can you say 100% that you know what kind of tackle he is?
that'll leave a mark
Touche.

If they get healthy, GB has a decent stable to work with going into next season
If they get healthy, GB will win the SB.
GB has enough players on the roster that have won a SB when things looked lost after week 12 and lost seasons when things looked golden after week 16 to know week 3 is nothing more than week 3.
GB has the pieces to beat anybody.
....agree, IF everyone comes back healthy our staff should have a lot of options to get our best group of olineman on the field. I believe that when coming out of college some questioned whether both Bulaga & Bahktiari were better suited for the interior, rather than tackle. Should promote great competition in camp.
Should everyone be healthy and back next year, having the "problem" of who the backups will be is always much better than the "problem" of who the starters will be.
Why are we talking about next year? Next week seems more appropriate.
I do remember Darrell running out of bounds a lot.
I remember the old silver fox tackling him in the end zone
