First time in history!
I knew you would know.
Hoping Brandon Woodruff will be back in August and good to go for the stretch run.

Brian Anderson announced it just before the last out by Williams..I thought he was gonna jinx them. š
Fock the Redds and their weird-ass chili
Tonight's 1st place line up:
Rain Delay. Looks like it will be a while too.
Yelich with a leadoff homer. Brew leads 1-0.
3-0 bottom of 8th.
Man, I like Owen Miller.
Cāmon boys.
Did I mention I love Payamps too?
Peralta, Peguero and Payamps have been ... I don't know ... preposterous?
Perhaps.
DIdn't see it, but how clean a hit was the Reds single hit? It was an infield single?
First place baby.

Didnāt see.
Broken bat single. Can't even say that the bat died happy.
Maybe sanguine.
Brewers give up a run in the Sunday game. Slackers.
Yelich gets a run back with long HR, but then Houser gives up a 2 run shot in the third. This seems like one of those games where a team struggles to score runs for a few games (Reds) and then explodes for like 10 or 12.
Outstanding bullpen work again today - sweep!
Yes. With no one out in the bottom of the third, the Reds had 5 hits, 1 walk, a double, and a home run. You could almost see the relief in their body language that they had finally scored and it seemed like a game a team that had been struggling would go on to win.
Instead, Houser buckled down and the bullpen was outstanding.
The game wining run scored in part because the Reds messed up a fundamental play. Runners on 1st and 3rd with no one out and Miller hits a deep sacrifice fly. For some reason, the Reds threw home (where it wasn't even close) and the runner got to second only to score on a bloop single from their with two outs.
Wow, 10 over .500! Any talk of trading Burnes this year is likely quashed. Might they add a piece or two?
The time up to the trade deadline will be interesting. Tellez is now on the DL for another month with 17 stiches in his finger. He got it caught in the fence shagging fly balls yesterday. That probably means Stinker Winker will be kept around for a while. Also Anderson is back on the Dl with back issues. Jahmai Jones is recalled.
But a great SWEEP it was. On to Philly to take them on.

Wonder what it would take to get Hader from the Padres?
In all seriousness, they need another veteran bat. It's great they swept the Reds, but they scored 9 runs in winning the last 4 against the Reds - and the Reds have some of the worst starting pitching in the league.
The Brewers are 26th in the league in OPS and 12th in ERA.

Keston Hiura is at a 979 OPS at Triple A, but I guess Jones can play multiple defensive positions
As I said before, Hiura has only a AAA bat. Maybe the bat they need is already with Brewers, Sal Frelick.

I agree with this: a vet bat is needed.
I think the club is hiding Huira to include him in a trade
If Yelich can continue with the way he is playing he should be a shoo in for comeback player of the year.
Especially if you consider it is a three year comeback.

I think his .194 average and .548 OPS might be why is still in AAA.

He was bad last year, but not that bad. His OPS at the major league level in 2022 was 765 in 266 plate appearances. He strikes out A LOT, doesn't walk much, but when he does make contact it often goes a long way. He had 14 HRs last year at the major league level.
His 765 OPS last year would be third on the team this year behind Yelich (850) and Contreras (799). For perspective, Wiemer is at 679, Winker is 584, and Turang is 566.
He is almost as bad a fielder as he is a contact hitter, which is probably why he's still down at AAA.
If you needed a guy to hit a HR to win a game in the ninth as a pinch hitter among all their potential back up hitters, he's probably your guy. If you need someone to do anything else, he's not.
This is a great graphic on him from this site.

He hits the ball hard, has average speed, and has the worst throwing arm in the major leagues.

Not sure if you mean Keston or Sal. Sal is hitting .229, 17 BB and 18Ks, and an OPS of .619. This is in 36 games. Last season in AAA he hit .365 and an OPS of .943. The kid can hit. He has been injured much of this season.
I read the numbers posted were his July numbers..anyway, a long way to go to thrive on major league pitching.
I suggest "Burn the Philly Steak" for Blair's next series thread.
