My point is, if the coaching staff thinks he can improve a ST position, cool. I'm not a fan of throwing him out there for charity purposes though. Just because he's DONALD DRIVER doesn't mean he's the team's best option to play on ST.

I don't disagree with this at all.

But I think some are missing the point here. Look I want the best 45 players on the team as well. But the mere fact the Driver, in order to be part of the team and contribute, is offering to play on ST's if that's what would get him active is beyond fu***** admirable.

Think Brent and his ego would even consider that?

To me this is more about Driver's humility, his team spirit, and his drive to do what it takes to be active.

If MM doesn't activate him so be it. But there is no denying the kind of team player Drive is. And even if not on the field, it should serve as one hell of an ispiration to the 45 who are on Saturday.

Just a humble question, knowing that I am more of a lurker than a poster....but,

would it really hurt us if he were to play a few minutes in the beginning of the game to give him his props?? Isn't he the all time receiver for the Packers?

Let the dude have a moment or two of glory....let's be human and civilized.
Maybe DD can come up with a hell of a pre-game or halftime speech to help the team. Great guy who was a great player but it's the playoffs and you have to go with your best players who give you the best shot at winning.
Heart says yes, head says no ... especially in SF.

If we were in GB it would be another thing to keep the fans in a tizzy during the game.

Hold the idea until next week when the Hags come to town. Smiler
Bottom line is Driver can't help on ST's.

I also agree with Rockin' Robin. Offering to play ST's? Admirable gesture. Telling Tyler Dunne he did it? Not so much.

Love the guy, but there's nothing classy or admirable about trying to rally the masses to your cause and laying a guilt trip on the coaches in the process. Especially for a game like this. This game is about way more than any one player. Driver knows that. Going public helps no one.

Wrong. This game is for the Green Bay Packers. Playing well is for Aaron Rodgers legacy.
Driver will go down as one of the best, if not the best in Packers history as a WR.

Still, if him wanting to play displaces another (better) guy regardless of the position I can't support it. We all know he's a gamer, but it's not smart to let emotion and pride take over your decision making process.

MM will make the right call so I'm really not that worried about it.

Really pissed if DD makes a 40 yarder....

Would Driver break the glass dome and become the first NFL black field goaler?

The ghost of Don Hutson says certainly not the best in Packers history.

Those Lofton and Sharpe guys must have played somewhere else. I love DD, but at what point was he even the #1 receiver on the Packers current roster?

For all we know Dunne saw him working with the special teams unit in practice and asked him about it and Driver just told him what was going on. I don't think there's any public lobbying here and if he has no comment it becomes a bigger story because now he seems too angry to even talk about it.

I was thinking Reggie Roby, but he was a punter.

(He did do some FG duty in college, though.)

According to Dunne, Driver told him he "even offered to play Special Teams" and their response was "We'll see." Dunne didn't see him doing it or he would have said so.

I suppose there could be an unselfish, "team-first" reason for revealing this to the press like this. I just can't think of one.

Anyway, it wasn't enough to cause a distraction or anything, so Driver gets a pass. Can't fault the guy for wanting to play.

Hutson was a dominant player in his day and a lot of his records stood for years. I'd probably put him #1 on the list as well.

The next guy is more difficult to choose. I know he rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, but I still believe Sterling Sharpe was not only a great WR, he was the best WR in the league the years he played. His numbers are downright gaudy for a guy that really only played about 7 seasons, and during that time everyone knew he was the #1 target, sort of like what Calvin Johnson is for hte Lions. Still, it didn't really matter. The guy was double teamed all the time and flat out ran by or ran over defenders.

Had Sharpe played 13 seasons like Driver it's crazy to think what kind of stats he would have compiled.

I agree. I don't think people remember how good Lofton was. He was 6'3" with tremendous speed and hands. He'd have put up huge numbers with the new rules.
