1968 NFL MVP QB and three-time Super Bowl champion dies at 79

quote:
Morrall, 79, played 21 seasons in the NFL from 1956-76, the latter portion of them with the Dolphins. In 1972, when starter Bob Griese was injured, Morrall helped the undefeated team stay that way. Griese replaced him in the AFC Championship Game and went on to win the Super Bowl. Still, Morrall was named the AFC Player of the Year, and won the inaugural NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award.

I was very young but I remember you playing & watching you & your perfect team after Bob was injured. You were a big part of that perfect team in 1972.

R.I.P. Earl.

I knew all about his incredible playing career. He's still the only QB to come off the bench and win a come from behind game in the Super Bowl. I had no idea he was the QB coach at the University of Miami in the 80's for Jim Kelly, Bernie Kosar, and Vinny Testaverde. What a football life.

RIP Earl.

Best #1 and#2 right now is probably RGIII and Kirk Cousins until Cousins is traded.

Rodgers and Flynn aren't bad. Really good if Rodgers never gets hurt.

Minnesota is two weeks away from two first round QB's and still no better than 15th on the list.  They've never won a Super Bowl either. The Vikings suck.

The who's really the #1 or #2 QB in Chicago last year would have stumped Stephen Hawking. Josh completed 67% of his passes and threw 13 TD's against 1 pick in 8 starts and then gets traded. Fortunately Jay is skilled at winning people over.

The backup QB's in SF and Seattle make more than the starting QB's. So do the left tackles. And the starting RB's. And the starting tight ends, punters, centers, kickers, and head coaches.....For now.

If you have a great starting QB and he goes down, you're pretty much screwed. The recent argument is Matt Cassel in NE. But they missed the playoffs. A week after the season ended they traded him to KC. He's playing pro ball in a college stadium now. if he starts things have gone horribly wrong.

Earl Morrall, Don Strock, Steve Bono, Frank Reich. There's not a huge list of solid backups on legitimately good teams but everyone remembers the good ones. Flynn could have been one and still might.

Speaking of McCown, McCown/Glennon might actually be one of the better combinations in the league right now.
