Is he an ordained minister? if not, huh? to me personally, this is so wrong on so many levels...

The church told local TV station KVUE that it’s erecting bleachers on its 60-acre outdoor space for what it expects to be a crowd of as many as 30,000 people.

“Obviously it’s our Super Bowl,” said Joe Champion, pastor at the Celebration Church.
------

“There will be the sacredness of Easter,” Champion said. “It’s not a Tim Tebow show. It’s not about a celebrity...."

yeah. right.

Georgetown, TX... Mason Crosby's old stompin' grounds. Saw this in the Austin paper this morning. That's bible-thumpin' territory there. Get pulled over in GT with a seed, go away for 10.

Yes, because talking about fairy tales is so much better if you've got the imprimatur to do so.
I didn't make my point (if I even have one) very good there.
The whole spectacle is what I feel is wrong on so many levels.
The fact that he ain't an ordained doesn't really matter to me, but what drives a legit church to bring in a guest speaker who ain't even qualified by their standards?
I liked the comment following the link.

In many Evangelical churches the sermon is referred to as a 'message' and one does not have to be ordained to give it; I suppose this is up to either the pastor of the church or its governing council (whatever it may be called). I can see why it would be jarring to some, especially people used to the Catholic/liturgical tradition, but really, it lets a church and a pastor or two take a break now and then, which may be welcome to all.

The article quotes the church pastor as saying that Tebow is not the focus of the service; from what I have read of him (not a lot) I would believe that if the service was supposed to be the Tim Tebow show, he wouldn't do it.

Seems to me the Packers once had a player who used to give a sermon now and then.
See, my first thought was that this is one of those independent megachurches, not of any denomination and led by a charismatic charlatan like Creflo Dollar or Joel Osteen. (Or, Tebow is Elmer Gantry; Joe Champion is the Jean Simmons character, and Mrs. Champion is the Shirley Jones character.)

They can bring in anybody they want to talk, and who (in the church's administration) cares whether the speaker has a degree in God Studies?

Oh no you didn't. I have to say it's rather funny that Adolf Hitler grew up worshipping what may have been a gay Jewish (almost) black dude. I've heard of rebelling aginst your parents and "Recovering Catholics" but that's a bit extreme. Big Grin
"Today, we've got a reeeeally big show for you!" says Lawrence Welk.
the only place I ever experience "God" is in nature far away from any and everyone. with a really big gun of course! Wink

Says the guy that hasn't been in a church for over 25 years.

May Zarmon shower you with with golden rain after he suffered through a Tim Tebow sermon for you.

bow chicka bow wow
what does the fact fact he is not ordained or a "preacher" have to do with it. And what do you mean the guy isn't qualified? Two weeks ago at my church, Retired General Boykin was the guest speaker. He is not an ordained minister but the guy was very inspirational. I did not know you had to be "qualified" to speak to a church group.

I think the adjective you are missing is resume is "inspirational, imparting a divine influence on the mind and soul.

Got a feeling you might not meet that qualification.

So he's divine? So many gods. So confusing!
Some of you may know that I am an ordained pastor and ex-military chaplain. I am now a chaplain with the VA. I must say that I cringe at some of the things that some "Christians" say and do. However, I think that this country allows for the expression of faith (or non-faith) regardless of their profession.

Dont worry about the hypocrites in churches..there is always room for one more.

That is true Hungry. True Story, My brother is a Southern Baptist minister and one day two Jehovah Witnesses show up at his door. He let them talk and talk while my brother kept looking at his watch. After a few minutes of this one of them asked if my brother had somewhere to go. He said no, I just keeping time so that when you are finished I want the same amount of time to tell you what I believe. Did not work, they left and took their literature with them.
