This is the first time I've seen a national writer put this out there. Carmen Policy's son seems like the guy.

Who are the top candidates to replace Packers president/CEO Mark Murphy? And do you see any scenario in which he departs prior to July 2025 (mandatory retirement age)? — Queen A.

Ed Policy likely will be Murphy’s successor at that mandatory retirement date. Policy has been with the organization since 2012, when he began as vice president and general counsel. He has served as chief operating officer and general counsel since January 2018.

This name also in many rumored circles:

Dawn Aponte has been an administrative force in the NFL for 25 years.  The following is a quote from her bio on NFL.com: “Throughout her 25 years in football, Aponte has developed expertise in matters relating to contract negotiations, salary cap management, labor and CBA issues, and day-to-day management of the football business and administration operations.”  That sounds exactly like the kind of person the Packers need as President and CEO.

In order to hire Aponte, though, the Packers would need to convince her that working for one NFL franchise is more desireable than working for the NFL as a whole.  Currently, Aponte is the Chief Football Adminstrative Officer for the NFL.  Stepping down to help run a single franchise might be a bit of a demotion for her.  However, her expertise in the areas of contract neotiation and salary cap management make her the ideal fit for Green Bay.

ffs

She’d be the closest thing there is to an actual owner as opposed to a league office bureaucrat

It’s going to be Policy, though

Refreshing to know the Packers have no need to look outside the organization for the best and brightest football minds and can just anoint Policy  after his decade plus fealty to Murph just like it promoted Gute to take over for his mentor Ted.

After all, it is not like the franchise prospered when it hired outsiders like Lombardi & Wolf.

Murphy was an outsider

Tis’ true that after elevating homegrown John Jones to succeed Bob Harlan only to have him suffer a debilitating health condition in May of 2007 the Pack was forced to scramble and actually hired an outsider in Mark Murphy.

Starting a search for the team’s top executive months into the league year was neither planned nor ideal, but that is what happened. Prying Murph away from his position as AD of powerhouse Northwestern was either a coup or a reflection of the pool of candidates available during that harried hiring process.

Now, should Ed Policy’s internal coronation go off the rails a la Mr. Jones circa 2007 perhaps it behooves a billion $ corporation like the GB Packers to conduct a broad, good faith search, one that extends beyond the confines of 1265 Lombardi Avenue, to find the best candidate to take control of the franchise.

Or, per usual in Green Bay, external candidates can mostly be ignored, and Murph can turn over the keys to the building to his loyal subordinate and que sera sera.

Given the way the Packer front office operates, it is hardly surprising that Policy has been declared the clear front runner for the position 3 years before his beloved boss is even due to step aside.

Good luck Ed.

I realize the goal for any franchise is to win championships.  However, since 1993 going forward to today, Green Bay has won 305 games.  That's second most in the NFL over the past 30 years.  Maybe promoting from within isn't that terrible of an idea.

You want to hire the right people, why is the idea of growing your own talent so impossible for some Packer fans to fathom when hiring someone from an equally successful organization would be embraced.  Of course, there is a segment of x4 that also thinks the best hire should take a pay cut to be here, so maybe not the best business acumen curated from a message board
