Vet minimum. 1 year. He'd do it. He's already getting $5 mill guaranteed from Houston.

Get him in GB ASAP.

Just need to make sure he's actually fully healed from the offseason surgery first....

Cheap waiver pick up...

Ed Reed is subject to waivers. Is owed about $400,000 on the remainder of his salary. Had $5M in guarantees in Texans contract

But - is old, slow, and disgruntled something the Packers would want?

Disgruntled? On the Texans? Now how could that be.

Bring him in, kick the tires. Sure he hasn't a lot left in the tank but maybe they'll catch lightning in a bottle. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Perhaps his leadership qualities will help, who knows.

Then there's Sean Richardson who was allegedly cleared by the team physician in late October. Will they allow him to practice? Haven't seen anything about that three weeks after he was cleared.

Part of the reason the Packers are struggling so mightily at the safety position is I believe the Capers scheme requires the player to be instinctive and "football smart" - qualities that appear to be severely lacking with Jennings and McMillian (and somewhat Burnett).

I believe Ed Reed could be a more than adequate QB of the defensive backfield - I don't think he would make the deep middle part of the defense any worse and maybe...just maybe...he could stabilize both safety positions by helping to make the right pre-snap defensive calls.

Why bring in Ed Reed and stunt the growth of promising young players such as....

Yea, I couldn't think of any either at safety.  Bring the ****er in and let's put somebody back there that has a clue.

Jennings and McMillian have looked lost. Burnett may be overcompensating, who knows...? What I've seen is Banjo and Hyde like to tackle where Jennings and McMillian play grab-ass. More often than not when Jennings was in position he didn't make the play, and the other times he was just out of position.

McCarthy isn't making a change in the coaching area, but he could make a change with a player or two (Jennings and Jones get my vote), that would get the defenses attention and heighten their urgency.

When you build almost exclusively through a draft and develop philosophy the misses are magnified. TT missed on McMillian and the faith he showed in his development was obviously misplaced. Banjo and getting Sean Richardson back in the mix are both better options at this point.

McMillian has not developed into a good Safety. But I can remember two Safeties the Packers took in the 2nd round that took more then 2 years to develop. Collins and Sharper (the matador).

I would not write off McMillian completely but I would suspect the Packers will spend a high pick on a Safety next year.

When you build through free agency, misses are magnified even more

He's Hardy Nickerson part deux - just spent and not able to handle it physically anymore.  That said, he STILL may not be any worse that POS Jennings, the love child of Marquand Manual and Mark Roman.

I still think that even if he's not a downgrade, you can't depend on him in January if GB happens to get there.

I guess he would have been worth a look at vet minimum. I think he'd provide a decent band-aid for the rest of the season. Even if he is done physically, he'd at least know where to be, which I think I'd take over what we have going on back there now. Like Packerhawk said, though, the Jets signing him is probably a good indication that it was not  a great idea in the first place.

Can someone explain to me why Hyde isn't getting a shot at safety opposite Burnett? It seems like such a no brainer to me. Hell, the guy's game seems pretty well suited to the position. His lack of a physical aversion to tackling being the main reason I say that.
