Vet minimum. 1 year. He'd do it. He's already getting $5 mill guaranteed from Houston.
Get him in GB ASAP.
Just need to make sure he's actually fully healed from the offseason surgery first....
I'd rent him if he can still play. Then again we currently have some who can't play and as they say....the more the merrier.
Trade deadline has past so he needs to clear waivers first, correct?
Cheap waiver pick up...
But - is old, slow, and disgruntled something the Packers would want?
Would have kept Woodson if they were interested in a washed-up DB.
His lack of speed makes Woodson look like CrimeTime in his prime.
He'd probably be OK covering an OL they bring in to play TE in their jumbo package.
Old, slow, and disgruntled vs. young, fast, and distalented.
Sign him.
Disgruntled? On the Texans? Now how could that be.
Bring him in, kick the tires. Sure he hasn't a lot left in the tank but maybe they'll catch lightning in a bottle. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Perhaps his leadership qualities will help, who knows.
Then there's Sean Richardson who was allegedly cleared by the team physician in late October. Will they allow him to practice? Haven't seen anything about that three weeks after he was cleared.
lets do it!
I know it sure as hell seems like they couldn't do any worse at safety, but Reed is a year removed from hitting the wall. I think his drop off was steeper and quicker than Woodson's.
Brandt is more optimistic than I was.
quote:Ed reed cut by Texans. I want him! Whatever is left of him I want it!!
Can we just use him as spare parts to fix all of our injured players?
Hmmm.......Eugene Robinson?
Better to get rid of, or in this case not even look at, a player a year too soon than too late. Reed falls squarely in this category.
Part of the reason the Packers are struggling so mightily at the safety position is I believe the Capers scheme requires the player to be instinctive and "football smart" - qualities that appear to be severely lacking with Jennings and McMillian (and somewhat Burnett).
I believe Ed Reed could be a more than adequate QB of the defensive backfield - I don't think he would make the deep middle part of the defense any worse and maybe...just maybe...he could stabilize both safety positions by helping to make the right pre-snap defensive calls.
Why bring in Ed Reed and stunt the growth of promising young players such as....
Yea, I couldn't think of any either at safety. Bring the ****er in and let's put somebody back there that has a clue.
Jennings and McMillian have looked lost. Burnett may be overcompensating, who knows...? What I've seen is Banjo and Hyde like to tackle where Jennings and McMillian play grab-ass. More often than not when Jennings was in position he didn't make the play, and the other times he was just out of position.
McCarthy isn't making a change in the coaching area, but he could make a change with a player or two (Jennings and Jones get my vote), that would get the defenses attention and heighten their urgency.
I'd like to see Banjo take over full time duties at FS.
Lattimore has been playing at an extremely high level. No way they can keep taking snaps away from him.
When you build almost exclusively through a draft and develop philosophy the misses are magnified. TT missed on McMillian and the faith he showed in his development was obviously misplaced. Banjo and getting Sean Richardson back in the mix are both better options at this point.
McMillian has not developed into a good Safety. But I can remember two Safeties the Packers took in the 2nd round that took more then 2 years to develop. Collins and Sharper (the matador).
I would not write off McMillian completely but I would suspect the Packers will spend a high pick on a Safety next year.
When you build almost exclusively through a draft and develop philosophy the misses are magnified.
When you build through free agency, misses are magnified even more
And that is why neither, exclusively, is the answer. There's nothing wrong with "draft & develop" scattered with a key FA signing or two.
I'm often adverse to a signing of this nature, but since he's cleared waivers why not?
Regardless, I don't think it's going to happen.
He's apparently signing with the Jets.
TT definitely needs to blow more money on old, oft-injured, over valued free agents.
I'd take Woody back before I spent dollar one on Ed Reed. He's done.
Oh well. Nice to dream
He's Hardy Nickerson part deux - just spent and not able to handle it physically anymore. That said, he STILL may not be any worse that POS Jennings, the love child of Marquand Manual and Mark Roman.
I still think that even if he's not a downgrade, you can't depend on him in January if GB happens to get there.
The Jets signing him is proof that it was a terrible idea.
I guess he would have been worth a look at vet minimum. I think he'd provide a decent band-aid for the rest of the season. Even if he is done physically, he'd at least know where to be, which I think I'd take over what we have going on back there now. Like Packerhawk said, though, the Jets signing him is probably a good indication that it was not a great idea in the first place.
Can someone explain to me why Hyde isn't getting a shot at safety opposite Burnett? It seems like such a no brainer to me. Hell, the guy's game seems pretty well suited to the position. His lack of a physical aversion to tackling being the main reason I say that.
Oh well. Nice to dream
Dreams are good when from heaven.....you dream was a good dream 5 years ago
I was pissed when GB didn't get Huff and I'm pissed they didn't get Reed. I know safeties!!!
