A perfect example of why I cannot stand the New York media, and the majority of New Yawker fans. They beat a bad Falcons team, and a Packers team obviously rusty coming off 3 weeks of rest, and a tragedy in the family, and now the Giants are crowning themselves one of the all time great teams.

Eli has now cast Aaron Rodgers on the same heap he cast Brett Favre on. He would have found a way to beat Starr and the Lombardi Packers, too.

That's just laughable.

Hey, I give full credit to the Giants for playing a great game, but saying a 9-7 team that had to squeak into the playoffs would beat perhaps the greatest team to ever play the game? LOL.

The NFL as it is played now is a shadow of it's former self. As I stated, the rules in place now make offenses so much more lethal. Defenseless receiver rules, and QB helmet rules, etc etc. Let this Giants team play at Lambeau the way football should be played, and it's not even close.

The Giants won today by out toughing us. They hit Rodgers. They flushed him from the pocket.

Does anybody think that this same Giants team would do that to Starr behind Jerry Kramer, Forrest Gregg, Jim Ringo, Fuzzy Thurston? Would the Giant receivers run wild with Willie Wood and Herb Adderly back there?

I think not.

Let's not get carried away with Eli. One TD pass was a result of a horrible tackle attempt by Peprah, who turned a 20 yard pass play into a 60 yard TD. The next TD pass was a heave and pray hail mary. About half his paasing yards came on those two plays.

And, when the game was still in the balance in the third quarter, Eli and the Giants put up only 56 yards of offense.

Granted, he did make some throws on third down....but hey, when your receiver is completely uncovered in the middle of the field, how hard is that?

Looking forward to the 49ers defense whipping up on the Giants next week, just like they did earlier in the season. Unlike our defense, for the most part the 49ers know how to tackle, the terrible play against Graham at the end of the game notwhithstanding.
I don't have any problem with the Giants enjoying the moment. They came into the house of a favored 15-1 team and humiliated them in what will go down as one of the worst playoff debacles in Packer history.

Ditto. Winning = bragging rights. Losers take their medicine and move on.
I've accepted the loss, and congratulated the Giants for their win. But when the NY media starts going overboard on the hyperbole with the "our 9-7 team could have beaten Starr and Lombardi", I draw the line.
Yeah, I think our loss was somewhat similar to the Saints, though they made a better game of it. We had to do a lot wrong, make a huge list of mistakes on offense and defense for the Giants to win: fumbles, missed tackles, receivers left wide open on third down.
IMO, Eli doesn't get enough repsect. He has the numbers, he has a ring and he has several clutch performances under his belt. Wha if he wins the bowl again this year? That will most likely make him a serious HOF candidate.
Sour grapes thats alll this whinning is.

The story is not about a 9-7 team, it is about a quarterback with a desire to win, to overcome maybe more talented skills on the other side of the ball.

Bottom line, Eli has gotten it done in GB in the playoffs against AR and the other guy.

The Packers lost, man up and move on.
Eli was relaxed and on top of his game (who wouldn't be with that kind of time?) and Rodgers was tense and below his best. It happens. I refuse to go with "so-and-so would have beaten so-and-so" from 40 years ago. The game is different. (Anyway, I'd put my money on Starr cuz he'd call a better game than Eli.)

ESPN was also asking if Eli is now better than Peyton. If we don't dro more passes than any NFL team did this year, fumble the ball away in our own territory several times and give up a Hail Mary at the end of the half we quite likely win that game. Eli's WRs saved him on several throws. From my seat I saw Jordy and Jennings each have plays where they were running free into the end zone behind the defense. Jennings twice actually. One of those was a bad pass, one a fumble and one became a check down for zero yard for reasons I cannot explain. It may sound like sour grapes, but if the Packers won after a full week of guarantees and trash talk from the Giants and no coverage of the Packers, wouldn't the media be asking a lot of questions about how tough Eli really is and tearing apart Coughlin? This team was ready to fire him four weeks ago, but he pulled out a division title in the second worst division in football (NFC Least). 9-7 record and only one win against another play-off team until the play-offs actually started. Lost to Seattle, Philadelphia, SF, NO, GB, and got swept by the Redskins. If the Giants lost no one would compare Eli to his brother let alone Starr. Getting way too caught up in the moment.

This team did not rough us up and own us. Packers just could not hold on to the ball and we missed every big opportunity we had. Giants deserved to win because they did not beat themselves. They are going to have to count on SF to beat themselves as well. We will see if lightning strikes twice.
I've got to hand it to Eli. I never thought he would develop into this type of player. Twice he has marched an underdog Giants team into Lambeau Field during the playoffs and beat a great Packer team. We fielded a future HOF QB in each of those games, and he outplayed both of them. I tip my cap to him.

There is little doubt: Eli has become a elite QB in this league, he has established himself as a great playoff QB, and he is building a HOF resume.
Not quite sure what is so wrong with giving Eli props. Take a look at the comparable QBs from Pro Football Reference. Some pretty good names listed there.

Is he elite? Easily can see why some would put him there. I would not put him with AR, Brady, Brees and Peyton (assuming he still can play) but he definitely has moved ahead of Rivers and Ryan and for sure has to be in the elite group if he goes to another bowl.
Eli marched the Giants in GB and beat them both times straight up???

C'mon man.

Bad tackling, a hail mary, and starting a drive at the Packers 4 yard line after a turnover for his 3 TD passes isn't beating a team straight up. The one time GB got in his face on Sunday he sailed a floater into Burnett's arms for a pick. There might be something to the argument that a pass rush is important.

And before we crown his ass as the "better Manning", let's remember the ring on his finger is there becasue the Packers (Favre) played a craptastically bad game in 2008 and the defensive front four broke Brady's spirit in the SB. And if not for a rediculous desperation dry heave that David Tyree pinned against his helmet he wouldn't even have that ring.

A good argument could be made that Favre was the Giants championship game MVP in 2008 and Packer dropped passes and careless turnover's were their 2012 championship game co MVP's.

I'm trying very hard to move past Sunday's game but hearing nonsense like Eli being better than Peyton and that Eli marched the Giants past the Packers does nothing more than remind me the Packers crapped the bed and played their worst game of the season at the worst possible time. And now I'm pissed all over again!!!
Something most coaches understand that most fans don't: You honor the team that beat you. Circumstances don't matter, what-ifs don't matter. Honor the team that beat you. Doesn't matter what the Packers did or didn't do. The Giants came in and did what was necessary to win against significant odds -- again. Hats off to them.
There is NO WAY that Eli is better than Peyton. None.

That said, I will give him credit for playing well in the playoff games at Lambeau. He got the job done on the road...twice. Period.

And he is putting together a nice career. He is only 30, and he has 185 TD passes. At this rate, and with his current WR corps, he has a great chance of throwing for more than 300 TDs and 40,000+ yds if he plays for 5+ years. Include a ring (or two) on his resume, and you're looking at a HOF resume.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade Rodgers for Eli, even if the Giants threw in some first round picks. But I am willing to give him credit where credit is due.

As for the talk about "Eli could beat Starr," just stop it. That is just stupid talk.
Eli played a very clean game and took full advantage of Packers mistakes, breakdowns, and waited for his receivers to come open when given time. He get's credit for not forcing anything and being patient.

Publicly MM will say he gives credit to the Giants for playing a solid game. Privately he's kicking his own ass for not having his team play to it's potential.

Regarding the HOF discussion. Eli has to win a second ring or he's not getting in. And even with a second ring he could end up along side Jim Plunkett as the only QB's to win 2 titles and not be HOF'ers.

Career stats of 58% comp. percentage, 185 TD's, 129 INT's, 50 fumbles, and a QB rating of 82.1 over 7 years of work aren't HOF worthy. At least not yet.

He's a good QB. But in today's era of ADD sports reporting, your place in history is measured by your last start. The elite chatter will erupt out of nowhere after a big win and dry up in a heartbeat after a poor performance.
