With all this talk about the penalties called on the Lions for "Hands to the Face" and Bakhtiari even admitting that he may have enticed the official to throw the flag.

Question is this. Can a player be called for faking a foul in order to get a flag thrown on the opposing player? Might that be an Unsportsmanlike penalty?

Having said that receivers have been lobbying for a PI flag on the defense for years even if they weren't interfered with. Of course in Soccer they are constantly faking sh**. I'm not saying Bakh did anything wrong just wondering if this will become a trend going forward with players acting out to draw a penalty.

Personally I think we already have too many flags and stoppages in the game. I say let them play unless it is an egregious foul.

The worst part and what I don't understand is the little ticky tacky penalties that call back awesome plays. People watch football for the excitement and when something big happens everyone is cheering and happy... its exciting to see an amazing catch and yac with the guy dodging tacklers... its exciting to watch a safety blitz in and take down a QB who thinks he is about to launch a bomb. Now every time there is a big great play people holds their breaths waiting for a flag... and you know what, it usually happens... especially if you are one of the hated teams or playing one of the golden teams (NE). It is blatant, it is obvious and it is making this game very difficult to watch. They need to do SOMETHING, the officiating bias and flag happiness is out of control.

As I'm sure others have said already, assuming the Lions would have scored if they got the ball back instead of the second hands to the face is wildly optimistic.  GB was already in field goal range and one can reasonably assume Crosby makes it, based on %.  That puts GB up.

People point to the penalty as if it directly took points away from DET (which is what Fail Mary did to GB).  The most you can say is it robbed DET of the opportunity to win.  They were doing very little on offense at that point in the game.

I heard last night that Bahktiari told the ref to watch the Lion's defender because he was getting punched in the throat by the defender. There are photos out there of the Lions defender holding onto Bakh's facemark, as well. Things do have a way of evening out. It is high time that the penalty flags started going the Packer's way. Any viking fan who thinks the Packers get the benefit of the bad calls/ non calls should remember last season's Clay Matthew's sack of Cousins in game two.

It is the NHL that has a penalty for embellishment. I think the NFL and all sports should have something similar. If you are playing the game and try to get a penalty called on your opponent that should be viewed as BS and the fact that the NHL realizes this, is just one more reason to be a hockey fan.

Yup.   Was never a fan of hockey until VGK came to town.   Went to a couple games with friends and got hooked.   Non stop action and no bullshit.  If someone wants to act like a tough guy, they better be a tough guy or they are getting their ass kicked.   Want to be a bitch and flop, get in the box you bitch and think about what you've done.

Love it.

David Stern made it a point to recommend Gary Bettman as commissioner of the NHL in 1993 right before the NHL was on the verge of exploding in the US and possibly becoming a threat to the NBA. Bettman worked for Stern as an NBA yes man.

Bettman took the job and fucked the NHL into oblivion and onto channels nobody can find.

Anyone that watched Detroit V Colorado 1987- 1992 will tell you it was a generational hatred rivalry that everyone loved and Stern needed to kill. And Bettman was just the guy to do it. He did.

Nobody watched Detroit v. Colorado from 1987 to 1992 because the Nordiques didn't relocate to Colorado until 1995.

Bettman has done a lot to screw up the NHL -- the Marty Brodeur Memorial Trapezoid, the idiotic overtime rules and shootout, and the NFL-like attempts to create more offense after the 1994-5 lockout all come to mind -- but if you're going to criticize him, you might want to do it with something not so easily debunked.

My mistake.

Eh, 10 years isn't much.  It means I could have started drinking at 8 years old.

(No Wisconsin drinking jokes, please.)

As best I can tell you started drinking well before 8.
