The were screaming "Dom", but it was really directed at the sidelines. The Packers put in some new schemes this week, including a 7 DBs with Jennings replacing Smith. Burnett was calling the signals this week thru the headset instead of DJ Smith or Hawk.

I think that with all the different defensive schemes running in and out, it was taking too long for a defensive package to get on the field and then the defense to be called.

Raji was on a post game show, and said the first two series the Packers were waiting for the Saints to run their offensive package on the field, and then tried to match it. He said they quit doing it after two series because they couldn't get it right.
From Silverstein at JSO---problem was with Burnett having the helmet headset and trying to call the defense:

" Some of the frustration LBs Clay Matthews and A.J. Hawk expressed early in the game was due to communication problems with the sideline.

Defensive coordinator Dom Capers decided to employ at times a seven-defensive back scheme called "dollar" against the New Orleans Saints so that he could he match up a defensive back on RB Darren Sproles instead of a linebacker.

In order to do that, he had to have someone other than D.J. Smith, the linebacker who was taken out for the seventh defensive, have the radio receiver in his helmet and make the calls. He chose to have safety Morgan Burnett do it.

Burnett has made calls in the secondary, but he has never been responsible for getting the play call into the huddle and making sure everyone was lined up correctly. The Saints play at an extremely fast tempo and so there was confusion on the second series of the game."

The next play after Hawk yelled up to the booth was Mathews getting the tackle for a loss to force the punt.

Then Mathews was playing with his hair and rinsing it with water on the sideline. No yelling or discontent there.

Then the offense scored after 2 good throws into the end zone, one that was broken up intended for Finley (which the haters are mistakenly calling a drop)and the zipper to Jones. Rodgers very happy afterwards (Discount Doublecheck).

The next series, it doesn't seem like it is a problem for a few plays until Mathews is motioning and yelling in frustration towards the sideline. Raji joins in. Hard to hear but cranking it to high on the surround sound, it sounds like "****" or "Dom" and then "Get the call in" by Mathews and then you can hear 2 other players yelling "the call".

...these are the things that make me question whether Dom makes it too complicated at times, which leads to uncertainty among the players & results in receivers running wide open?

Not trying to insult you on a personal level, but you make the wildest assumptions and have the biggest knee jerk reactions I've ever seen on X4. I think I can say with some certainty that his scheme and his play calls are not "too complicated". Is his defense complex? I'm sure it is, he dreams up some exotic packages. We're not doing anything more exotic than we were last season or 2010 and I don't remember there being a question of his play calls or scheme being over complicated.

The problem is not Capers, the problem is occurring on the field and it can all be traced back to Nick Collins. The guy was the QB of that defense, he got all the young guys in position, he knew the defense in and out, and he consistently made the right calls. Now you have Morgan Burnett doing his job with a rookie next to him and he's going through some growing pains. And add to that the complicated packages the Saints use on offense and yes there will be communication issues. We need to be patient with our young DBs. The communication errors aren't coming from Woodson and Tramon, they're coming from 3rd year player Sam Shields (who is in year 3 of playing CB mind you), 3rd year player Morgan Burnett, rookie Casey Hayward, rookie Jeron McMillan, and 2nd year player MD Jennings. When you have half a dozen very young players there will be growing pains.
All good points GD. Also should mention DJ Smith who seems to be having trouble getting his depth right in coverage on obvious passing downs.

If there's one aspect to Dom's play calling on D I wouldn't mind see go away, it's the 3 man rush on 3rd and long. Give any QB in this league enough time and they're going to find an open receiver. The odds of a receiver being held go up as well if the QB has too much time.
