“A guy like me, I’m pretty pissed off about the season I had,” the Green Bay Packers fourth-year tight end said matter-of-factly Wednesday. “I view it as mediocre. An average season – just because of the level of play I know I can play at. I don’t think I played well this year.”

I'm glad Finley saw what the rest of us did. I think not being in the discussion of the top TE's in the NFL gets to him. I really hope he turns it on in the playoffs. Having him emerge as the pro bowl threat he should be would make this offense legendary.
55 catches, 767 yards, and 8 touchdowns is nothing to sneeze at in this offense...and yet the perception is that he had a sub-par year. Imagine what his stats look like if he cuts the drops in half.

I do believe he is more physically gifted than any TE in this league, including Graham. I hope he is resigned, because I feel he can be a transcendent talent in the NFL once he gets it all figured out.
Agreed, I'd take either one over Finley now...but if Finley can consistently play like he did against the Cardinals in the '09 playoffs, I don't think there's anybody better.

That is a big if, though.
the December 4th game would not have even been close if Finley had caught those passes he dropped. With the safeties playing deep, and the corners playing press man, the middle of the field will be WIDE open. Finely could be huge in this game
Sorry fond of...but you are way off on this...

Both Gronk and Graham are better athletes than YADDA. Like RainBoris said....I hope he is motivated...because he can be the difference maker in the playoff run.

Kinda like comparing Ryan Grant to Emmit Smith....

I truSTDed you to be a better Judge

MariRaji will be in trouble with the league or eat his way out of it in three years.

Subtle profundity once again from the state of Iowa. You gotta get up pretty early to keep up with deep thinkers like ewe. I've been busy all day chasing prefunds, so I did happen to get up early.

I think Hernandez is a better athlete as well. Those two TE's in NE are both ridiculously good.

Go back and watch the highlights from that 09 playoff game in AZ, though. What happened to that guy? He was dominant. If he shows up, GB will annihilate every defense they face. It's been awhile since that guy has shown up, though.

yep...Maybin is being used properly now and is making a splash. Crabs would be better than Jennings with Arod throwing to him.

Discount double take made the pro bowl on celebrity status alone this year.

Smiler I see what you did there

I'd say it's more like comparing Randy Moss to Calvin Johnson. They're both ridiculously talented in what they can do athletically, but yet you like one guy over the other. Kind of like in Pulp Fiction (you should check it out when you wanna take a break from your reality TV binging), you're either an Elvis guy or a Beatles guy. I'm a Finley guy...IF he's playing up to his full potential. Hasn't happened consistently enough this season, whereas Gronk and Graham have dominated the whole year.
Finley was a complete animal vs. the Cards in Jan. of 2010. He wasn't just beating some nickle or dime back. He was beating Adrian Wilson for those catches & making him look silly in the process.

If THAT player shows up, Jimmy Graham & Gronk will be crapping their sweat pants.

I think Finley is worried about getting hurt again. We'll see if he let's it rip on Sunday.

This. In watching gronk and Graham, they don't have Finley's hands (when he's on, that is). What I mean by that, his drops notwithstanding, is that near the goal you throw it up there and he has these two enormous mitts that engulf the ball. Graham and Gronk don't have that ability, and it makes Finley so dangerous near the EZ. Throw it near him and it's 6. The other two are really good players (faster than Finley for sure), but Finley to me should be better than both.

It was a mental block of some kind that had him dropping the ball. But a little confidence can go a long way. If Finley plays the way he should, he's the best receiver on the field...
"In the regular season, his 55 receptions matched his career high from 2009 and were one short of Paul Coffman’s 56 in 1979, the team record for tight ends. His 767 yards were a career best and the second-most in a single season by a Packers tight end, with only Coffman’s 814 yards in 1983 being better."

This is a bad man. I don't give a **** if Gronk or Graham or anybody else may or may not be better. It doesn't matter...

The fact is Finley had a down year with uncharacteristic drops and he put in one of the best seasons for a TE in Packer history. The "should we or shouldn't we" talk about resigning him is silliness. He's got more talent than the rest of the TE's on the roster combined.

This is the biggest reason why his season was mediocre. He had the opportunity to put up absolutely dominant numbers and he literally and figuratively dropped the ball. 11 drops is way too many, but it's not necessarily the number of drops that is disappointing, it's when he had those drops. It always seemed like his drops were either on key 3rd down plays or were missed opportunities for big plays. When we needed him to come through, he couldn't do it. Personally I think he was distracted and worried about taking a big hit and getting injured in a contract year and he wasn't concentrating on catching the ball, but that's just speculation.
