Perry isn’t going anywhere.  They release him and the dead cap hit is over 11MM for 2019.  It’s less (7MM) in 2020, but that was the risk when he was extended.  Dude just can’t stay healthy.

"EQSB - block was ferocious but 100% legal. NFLFU!"

We all called Sapp a scumbag when he did it to Clifton.  EQSB is a scumbag too.   Absolutely not needed.   He could have taken him out of the play without putting his career and long term health at risk.

Except Sapp’s hit was completely away from the action on a player who wasn’t a threat to the ball carrier and was completely defenseless and Sapp left his feet as a 300 pounder aiming at Clifton’s head. EQ, a 220 lb receiver, blindsoded a would be tackler with a hit to the chest/face mask. Nothing dirty about it IMO, but the NFL wants those to stop. Completely different plays. Sapp was also called a scumbag as much for his reaction to the hit as much as the hit itself.

Another win at home (undefeated this year!).
New/young guys stepping up when needed.
Rookies continue to improve.

-
Still can't stop the run.
Defense allowing 4th down and 3rd-and long conversions is atrocious.
Zook/ST play. Much better coaches than him are fired mid-season....

Misc
Other games this week that could affect making the playoffs fell in our favor.

Right on.  And Gase didn't even challenge ESB.

None of the Dolphins seemed to take offense to the hit. I would have expected retribution after the play, maybe a scuffle or a fight, or to see EQ take some kind of bad hit later on as revenge if it was dirty. No one on the field seemed to think it was dirty though. I hope McCain is okay and I'm not trying to blame him, but that was a clean hit, albeit illegal in the NFL, and is exactly why coaches preach players should keep their head on a swivel.

++++++ We won.

+ Decided Time outs late in the game might be important after all.

+ We're a sack monster team even without perry and hairdoo

+ 33 is a stud. And run blocking was fine. Too bad the coaches don't notice.

+ Rookies are kicking butt

+ Decided to run a trick play? Hell froze over.

+ Owen Burks is a special teams stud

+ We know what we have to draft next year- replace guys always hurt- bulaga and perry, King is in that category but it seems we are overflowing with capable secondary

- 12 and 17 not on the same page?

- Play calling still stinks.

- Zook is an absolute dolt.

- too many injuries.

- People rooting for the Pack to lose so MM is 86'd. Never root against the Pack!!

+++   The most enjoyable Packer game I've watched in a long time.

Even more than beating Niners on MNF 33-30? Or beating Bears opening game after being down 20-0?

Those games were more nerve-wracking than enjoyable to me. We should have beaten those teams handily instead of them being nail biters.

+++ Aaron Jones running the ball. MVS catching the ball. Jaire Alexander in close coverage on anyone. Marcedes Lewis made a nice catch. Our Defense played well, overall. It was nice to see three sacks in a row on Osweiler. The trick play shocked me! ESB putting a hit on the Dolphin defender! He got flagged for it, but it was a clean, no helmet to helmet, hit! We win the game!

---- Our injuries. Watching Perry's knee bend backwards nearly made me puke. Hopefully he can recover, but that may have been a season ender for him. Scott's punt getting blocked. We play again this Thursday.

Jaire is incredible, hope he's OK.
I expected AJones to do well against the Fin's lacking run D.
Otherwise, all I learned was MVS has pretty damn good hands, and Osweiler sucks as much as I thought he did.

Team still needs to get it together, lacking discipline.

The only thing unnecessary about the hit was the violence.  But you can't legislate out violent hits just because they're violent.  He hit him from the front, in the chest, and it was near the ball.  You can't say "hit him less hard" because that is impossible to legislate by the officials.  Sorry but hits like this are going to happen.

- Special teams.  Zook is the new Capers.

- Still clear that TT's 2013-16 drafts are hurting this team

- Matthews and Perry are done.  Both were handled by backup OT's yesterday.

+++ Hard not to be encouraged by young talent on this team.  Watching three rookies at receiver, a second-year guy tearing it up at RB, the rookie talent in the defensive backfield...even the UDFA guys (and 2nd year guy King, if he can ever stay healthy).  Another draft like last year's and some wise spending in Free Agency to fill some holes at safety, edge rush, OL and TE (though I like the promise Tonyan has shown) and this team will be back in business.

Wins are always good---My favorite part of the game was when they showed a clip of the half time flag football game and there was somebody in a Nick Barnett '56' jersey. I always liked Nick, even after the 4th and 26...and I thought Wow!-who would have a Barnett Jersey?---turns out it was Nick Barnett........

EQ's "hit" was not so much a hit as it was him getting in the way/path of the defender. EQ was essentially stopped while the defender was running full out.

That's how I saw it.

Agree with all of this except isn't Zook the same Slocum?

The average shelf life of an NFL player is 3-5 years - What's your ****ing point?

DO I seriously have to show you a list of all the other NFL teams that draft like shit? Like ALL of them.

There's a reason the draft is called a crap shoot. There isn't some guidebook or magic crystal ball you can follow to draft REAL NFL players.

You can't create a player out of thin air.

Real people - it's not fantasy football.

Re: EQSB's block

EQSB put his shoulder directly into the mid-section / lower chest of the player.

He didn't use his head, he didn't go helmet-to-helmet. EQSB didn't try to intentionally injure an opponent.

He blocked a player that was trying to tackle the ball carrier. He did his job & well.

I don't want to see any player hurt but unfortunately it does happen. It's not bowling, golf, badminton or croquet. It's a collision sport with players running into each other.

Football is a very easy game - the team that blocks & tackles the best usually wins

**** the NFL for creating a rule to stop blocking. They want scoring & ratings & money. It's that simple. It also explains 1 of the reasons for my decreased interest in the game.

I actually don't think it's the draft that is hurting the team per se, I think it's the fact that TT didn't realize quickly enough that his drafts were crap and invest in veteran UFAs to fill holes that his drafts weren't addressing. There were holes for sure, it took a man like Gute to fill them.

If you can't see that those drafts were pure crap, and definitely in the bottom quartile as compared to other NFL teams, you need to take off your green n gold TT glasses.  Shelf life or not, our core should be from that group, not just a handful of guys.  And, with most successful picks, the Pack usually does their best to sign to a second contract,  ie longer shelf life.  I guess that's my ****ing point.

I actually think TT's 2016 and 2017 drafts are looking ok.  I see 2 pro bowlers (Clark and A Jones), 2 long term starters (Martinez and King), 2 significant contributors (Lowry and Fackrell), and 2 decent backups/special teamers (J Williams and T Davis).  These two years are right on par with Ron Wolf's goals of what you want out of a draft.  Just looks worst b/c guys like Josh Jones, Jason Spriggs, Biegel, and Adams have been outright busts picked pretty high in the draft.

What's really hurt this team is the 2013 through 2015.  3 years of drafts and all we have are Bakthiari, Adams, and Linsley.  That's what's killing this team.

EDIT: And before i get called out, I know King is the big variable - he clearly has the talent and this secondary is much better with him on the field but the dude has to stay healthy.

The book isn't yet closed on Spriggs, J Jones and MAdams.  Spriggs is climbing toward "serviceable", could still be recovering from injuries.  MAdams flashed last week, maybe he just needs reps.  J Jones rated well vs. NE, haven't seen any analysis on his play last week yet.  This D is still very much evolving and finding itself.  I'd give those guys at least until the end of Pettine's first year to have a good read on them.  Don't forget what they're climbing out from under.
