Regarding storm surge, so much depends on where the tide is. If landfall hits at high tide the storm surge is way worse than if landfall occurs at low tide. So depending on when Milton makes landfall the resulting damage depends on what stage the tide is in.

I just spoke with my daughter. Her husband is in charge of the emergency service in the City where they live. He told her that the Media is not reporting how bad this thing actually is. They live about 20 miles South of me and the EOC has told them to expect Cat 4-5 winds even though they are 30-40 miles inland. Media is saying Cat 1-2 where we are.  EOC keeps telling them this is going to be devastating across Florida. They have 3 boys and had the thought to fly them to Louisiana to family there. They asked the boys and gave them the choice but also told them that if they did, there is a chance they would not see their parents alive again. The boys told them they would rather die with their parents than live without them.  Damn!

"I can say,  without any dramatization whatsoever,  if you choose to stay in one of those evacuation areas, you're gonna die." Tampa mayor.

Get out. Take the back roads if necessary.  Get to Southern Florida and sit in your car if you have to.

Don’t know what media you’re referring to because we’ve been monitoring the news regularly here in the Wild West and they are telling people to GTFO or risk the very worst. Hope you stay safe.

Hurricane Milton’s wind speeds have slightly decreased, but it remains a Category 5 storm, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center’s most recent advisory.

The storm has maximum sustained wind speeds of 160 mph (260 kph). As of 11 p.m. EDT Tuesday, it was 405 miles (650 kilometers) southwest of Tampa, Florida. It has picked up lateral speed, moving toward Florida at 12 mph (19 kph), and the hurricane center said it was expected to travel more quickly overnight into Wednesday.

So CNN and MSNBC are out. I like your style. 👀😂

I prefer channels who don’t get sued and then settle for gazzilion dollar fines for um, lying.  As Chris Wallace says, the truth is non negotiable.

Give Pakrz a break.  Truth tastes like poison when you've been raised on a steady diet of lies.  But this hurricane thing is no lie. I am fearing for the worst but praying for the best and hope that people are at least able to get farther inland if not out of the path altogether.

The lies will come during the recovery!

The National Weather Service in Miami posted a photo on the social platform X of the funnel crossing the highway Wednesday morning with the words: “TORNADO crossing I-75 as we speak! Seek shelter NOW!”

A fucking tornado BEFORE The hurricane hits

Everything is closed around here. Very minimal traffic out. Looks like everyone has hunkered down. We are supposed to start getting the outer bands in the next 2 to 3 hours. Boards are up, sand bags at the front door and loads of snacks I have to eat before Friday. The wife will give all the good stuff away on Friday if we have power.

That's just nuts.

Sand bags for 8-15 foot surge? If traffic is down, get out.

I live in S Lakeland in Polk County. The path moved from about 2 miles south of me to about 20 miles south of me. It is going to go directly over my kids homes in Fort Meade. If the current path stays the same

Sand bags are only for the front door from the wind blowing the water underneath. If my house floods, turn the TV off and say a prayer. All of Central Florida is dead.

My dad/step mom, step sister/husband live in Dunedin near Clearwater.  Step sister and husband have evacuated. My dad and stepmo decided to ride it out at a friends condo a mile or so away because it's a brick building. I guess their nephew losing the house he and his kids lived in during Helene in the last go round wasn't a big enough red flag to get them to GTF out of there this time.

So now it's sit and wait time for who knows how long waiting for word on how they fared.

This is all the way down in Fort Lauderdale, way way south of this hurricane. Crazy.

that is scary. No way I would stay that close to the coast. is it a newer home? I know if it was built after Andrew, there is a chance they can withstand winds up to 140 MPH. Still the flooding there is what would concern me most. Good luck to them.

Projected storm surge for the Port Charlotte/Cape Coral/Ft. Meyers area.  Red is 9 ft+ surge.  Yellow is 6 ft.

You know all those housing developments that have moats everywhere so everyone has waterfront property?  Yeah all those are in the red.  They're gonna all be gone.  If anyone stayed there, they're dead.

Jimmy Johnson is a Tampa resident,  isn't he? I hope he got out, and I'm not sure his yacht will though. Saw a video of a marina full of boats in the strike zone. Not gonna be there tomorrow.

He lives in the Keys, about 7 hours south. For a change, it looks like the keys are one of the safest places to be.

We have friends and family in FL. Prayers up for all affected.  CAT5 is no joke. 🙏

Curious how this affects NFL. I see TB and Jax have road games and Mia on bye but they live in FL too.
