Even though Euro 2024 and the Copa America are still going on, UEFA Champions League qualification kicked off this week with some exciting fixtures, so it's time for a new football thread.

With the start of a new season, every team across Europe can hope for big things even if most won't achieve those big things.  One team that has already had its hopes dashed, however, is the San Marino champions, who hosted the former Steaua Bucharest in the first CL qualifying round and promptly lost 7:1.  Off to Conference League qualifying for them.

Will Bayern get better coaching this season?  Will other EPL teams be held to the same standards as Everton?  (OK, don't make me laugh.)  How many bogus calls with Real Madrid get?

Arsenal finally wins the PL this year.

It's obvious the Pep years are winding down at City. Based on the clubs lack of significant off-season moves, it tells me they can't because Pep isn't signing an extension. This will be his last year.

No backups signed for Rodri and KDB. No immediate replacement for Kyle Walker who at this point in his career is a lot of pace, but not much else.

I know I'm biased, but Kompany will elevate Bayern. Will that be enough to win CL? Probably not...but I predict less shitting of the bed under him in year 1.

Great tournament! You’d have to say Spain is the favorite for the 2026 World Cup, so much vibrant young talent. Yamal wins best young player.  And Rodri a deserved winner as player of the tournament.

I've long been sick and tired of England getting Dallas Cowboy-like treatment as though of course they should be America's Other Team in tournaments.

Heck, much of the post-match commentary seemed to be about them and not the team that actually won....

City sell Alvarez to Atleti for 95M...not bad since he only cost them 15M.

City continue to be the lowest net spenders over the last 5 years on the "Big Six" in the PL. Chelski and ManUre continue to burn fat stacks to finish just outside or just inside the CL qualifiers.

But City are "ruining football."

Always respected Reus...could have moved to bigger clubs but chose to remain at Dortmund in his best years.

OK, it was only 1-0 against mighty Liechtenstein....
