A home and home with Saban and his Crimson Tide

Bucky vs Bama

Got some great ones lined up in the future. Next season, Wisconsin will play Notre Dame on October 3 at Lambeau Field. The following season (2021), the Badgers and Fighting Irish will meet at Soldier Field in Chicago.  The Badgers have made a concerted effort to bolster their future schedules with home-and-home series. In addition to Alabama, they have agreements with Washington State (2022 and 2023), Pittsburgh (2026 and 2027), UCLA (2029 and 2030) and Virginia Tech (2031 and 2032). I hope alot of these hold up over time because I found a post I did in 2013 about future non conference opponents did not.

Interesting about UW non conference going forward, really seem to want to upgrade.  The Badgers have several non-conference games set for 2016 and beyond.

In 2016, UW is set to play Sept. 10 at Virginia Tech.

In 2017, UW is set to play Sept. 2 at BYU, host Virginia Tech on Sept. 9 and play at South Florida on Sept. 16.

In 2018, UW is set to play Sept. 1 at Washington and host BYU with the date to be determined.

I was absolutely floored that Bama would actually play a true road game at a Big Ten stadium.  With few exceptions will they venture out of a neutral field to play a big time opponent.  A lot will depend on where the teams are at that point in time (will Saban still be there 5 years from now? he is 67 now) but I give Bucky mad props for stepping up their schedule.

And PLEASE let this be a game under the lights!

I love this.  Ironically, when Barry was head coach he avoided these tough non conference games like the plague but it’s all about building your brand.

It’s great exposure and indicates the Badgers are established and confident they can hang.   I just hope it’s a night game.  That would be amazing.

Funny enough they schedule Alabama multiple times but have pushed out Va Tech several times now.  It might be 2060 before they face the Hokies.

I think there was a time that this was considered unnecessary. The thought process was that they have plenty of schedule clout in the Conference season. Can’t argue really with that logic.

But it seems that the FBS playoff has changed some of that, and it’s good for the game. Wisconsin has a real opportunity now- the legitimacy of the program with at top 25 recruiting class and now some scheduling to dangle out in front of recruits is all positive. If nothing else, the in-State recruiting should hold up a lot more now.
